One of the most stressful parts of a home renovation is the fact that there is so much going on at any given time, and so much for you to think about. There are larger projects within the renovation and smaller, easier ones. A lot of people like to leave the bigger ones until last, but we find that this just prolongs your stress as you’re constantly worrying about how you’re going to get it done.
In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the bigger home renovation tasks that we recommend you complete sooner rather than later to get them out of the way. Are you with us? Let’s get started.
New Windows
We’re going to begin by looking at your windows. If they’ve blown, if they are otherwise damaged, or if you’ve just decided that you want higher quality windows, this is a pretty big and often expensive job. You need to call in the professionals, you need to for the glass itself and then the installation, all of which can take a pretty sizable chunk of time to get through. So, even if you start the process now, it may take a good few weeks to get to a point where your windows are installed, so why not get started now?
If you are adding any windows with weepholes, check out our video about an important maintenance thing to do with them below or via our YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
If you’re worried about them getting damaged or dirty while the other renovation work is happening we have two solutions: be careful, and clean them.
A Kitchen Renovation
Have you decided to renovate your kitchen? So many people have said that they found this stressful, and that’s why we would get it done and out of the way first. You have to plan on not using certain areas of your kitchen for a few days if you’re going to be completely ripping it out and having a new one put in, so make your arrangements and get started.
If you’re not doing this, and instead you’re choosing to renovate without pulling it all apart, it can still be a big job. There’s a lot to do to take your kitchen from drab to fab, and as it’s the heart of the home, it should be a priority.
Replacing (Parts Of) The Roof
Last but by no means least, the roof is one of the most vital parts of your home and if you have plans to have this worked on, you need to get that done sooner rather than later. Whether you’re getting a whole new roof or you're just having parts fixed doesn’t matter. Your roof protects your home from the elements and keeps you safe, so it’s got to be one of the first things on your list!
If you are able to, getting these big projects out of the way makes the whole process that much less stressful. There is a lot to work through when renovating your home, and we know that there are times where it’s not possible to complete any large scale parts first due to financial constraints, but if you can, you should.
