How to Make a WAH Treadmill Walking Desk Space

With both my husband and myself working at home full time, we found ourselves not getting enough steps in throughout the day. This became very clear when we started tracking our steps and the scale told us we were gaining weight. Before being full-time WAH, we always got around 10,000 steps a day. We cut that in half when we stopped going into an office, which was obviously not good for our overall health.

Despite living in a warm climate, sometimes it’s just too hot (we live in SW Florida) to go on long walks outdoors. Then, sometimes it’s simply too dark to do a long walk in the evening after work. Since neither of us are morning people, we had to find a solution to get our step count back up. After doing some contemplation, it lead to creating a walking desk at home, like I had access to in my previous office environment.

Read on to learn how we made a work at home treadmill walking desk space.

Home Workout Room

Home Workout Room Before

We had a very small space off the side of our bedroom that we turned into a craft storage space/small workout room. See that transformation by clicking here. After using the treadmill in that space for a while, I realized I didn’t use the television as much as I thought I would, so we moved it to another room.

Other than doing some work while I walk, I also enjoy listening to music or watching documentaries when I am on the treadmill, So, instead of a television, I used my iPad. The treadmill had a small stand which worked to hold the iPad well, but then I realized I needed more room for other things like my phone, a computer or water.

I thought about adding a shelf, but because it would always stick out, I decided on a fold up desk. I purchased a small wall desk cabinet on Amazon.

After reading the specs on the desk, I knew it would be able to hold everything I needed, especially a large laptop. I ordered it and hung it with the help of my husband. We made sure to get it into the wall studs, but if you are wanting to hang one like this and can’t find studs, make sure you hang it with drywall anchors.

Peloton Desk

You could also use this desk for a Peleton

Not only do I use it, but my husband loves using it too. We also enjoy the small treadmill. It’s quite compact, but large enough for me (I’m a shortie at 5’1”) and my husband (who’s much taller than I at 6’2”).

Even with the treadmill being next to a wall vent and in a well-ventilated area, it still gets hot. So, I ordered two rechargeable fans that I can wrap around the treadmill. I use one at a time, always having one charged up and ready to go when the other one runs out of juice.

The fold-up desk cabinet I chose has a felt lining, so I could fold up my ipad or slim laptop into it for storage. You could also pin photos to it with some decorative thumb tacks as well.

The small workout space is now highly functional. I added some decor, like a framed motivational quote that I created myself.

I purchased the frame from T.J. Maxx and the neon flamingo light from Amazon. I love how this workout space turned out and use it every day. I hope you find this WAH treadmill desk walking space project inspirational!
