How To Make More Use Of Your Garden Space

Most of us make more use of our inside space as opposed to our outside space, which is often caused by a lack of care and maintenance of the garden. However, the garden is as much used as the interior of our homes, so we should make more use of it.

It is good for the mind and body to be outside in nature. The garden promotes peace and calm, which can be a great way to wind down and socialize. If you want to make more use of your garden space, follow along with this guide for the best tips.

Outdoor Fire Pit Idea

1- Stay warm

Some people will avoid using their gardens in the evenings or colder months due to feeling cold and uncomfortable. However, it is possible to stay warm with fire pits & outdoor lifestyle accessories.

Installing a fire pit into your garden will encourage you to spend more time out in your garden no matter the weather. You can use them throughout the summer and toast marshmallows, or use them to stay warm when hosting a gathering during winter.

Other accessories to consider are blankets and cushions, which can be used solely for the outside space if you want to avoid getting your inside accessories dirty or damp. You can cozy up around the fire with blankets and feel as warm as you would inside while enjoying your garden space.

2- Inside-outside space

Having an inside-outside space will allow you to still be inside while enjoying the beauty and nature of the garden. If your social spaces are away from the garden, then you really aren’t giving your garden love or appreciation at all.

For instance, adding a sunroom to your home is a way to enjoy being inside while feeling outside, which will mean that you are utilizing the outside space. You can socialize or wind down there at any time of day and look out onto your garden.

It is also a great room to have to be in between your interior and exterior. Having wide opening doors that allow you to have easy access to the garden will encourage you to step outside more as opposed to avoiding it.

3- Garden shoes

Having gardening shoes might sound like a strange way to spend more time in the garden. Yet, their purpose is to encourage you to get outside more. If you only have ‘nice’ shoes, then you won’t want to wear these out in the garden, especially if it’s muddy. Whereas you can use outside shoes to get dirty and not care about them.

Therefore, you will be more willing to go out into the garden and appreciate every corner of it, no matter how muddy or wet it is.

4- Vegetable patches

Using your gardening shoes and your love for eating fresh produce, you could consider starting your own vegetable patch. These are easy to create no matter the size of your garden. Even having a 3’ x 3’ space is enough to start your own home produce patch.

Having a vegetable patch is rewarding as you can grow your own food and consume it all within the comfort of your own home. Plus, it will give you a reason to head out into the garden every day as you will need to care for your product to optimize its growth.

Having a vegetable patch will make your garden more efficient while giving you a reason to spend more purposeful time in the garden.

5- Add a seating area

Every garden needs a seating area if you want to spend more time out there. You won’t be able to spend much time in your garden if you don’t have anywhere to sit.

Therefore, by adding a seating area, you will have more reason to spend time in the garden. It is useful to add the seating area to a convenient space, such as a patio so that you can avoid walking on the grass. Or, put it near the outside BBQ so that you can host a party while cooking.

6- Host outdoors

If you like hosting, then why not use your garden as a space for a party? Although you might think it is best to host inside, you will likely have more breathing space in the garden. You will also be able to maintain your interior while having a great time at home. Sometimes hosting inside can result in incidents that hinder the cleanliness of your home, which can lead to you avoiding hosting social events.

Therefore, use your garden space to host social events. It will allow you and your guests to enjoy your garden. To make the social event more inviting, ensure to have a seating area, warm accessories, and a place to gather around should it get cold.

7- Plant vertically

To maximize the size of your garden, you could consider growing your plants or vegetables vertically. Should you not have much space for seating and flowers, then you can use the floor space for seating and still enjoy flowers and produce by growing it up along your fences and gates.

Plating vertically is useful and efficient if you have a small garden. It is also a great way to add more color to your garden.

8- Add flowers to unused or hard to get to spaces

Should you have unused or hard to get to spaces in your garden, don’t let them go to waste. There, you could grow flowers or your own produce. In fact, having a hard-to-get-to area is ideal to grow your own produce.

You need to ensure that the area receives enough light for the produce to grow efficiently. If it doesn’t, then choose produce that requires minimal light.

Not enough of us utilize our garden space enough. Therefore, by using this guide you will be able to make more use of your outside space. Simply adding a cozy area to sit and a place to attend to, such as a vegetable space, will give you more reason to spend quality time in your garden.
