Easy Hair Product Storage Solution with Wireless Lighting
I am always looking for better storage solutions to solve home organization issues. When my gold and white hair product shelves started looking bad and always seemed to be dusty, I needed a new organization idea. I scoured the internet and came up with a caned cabinet by Better Homes & Gardens from Walmart and here’s how I now store my hair products.
The “before” storage solution
My “Store”
My husband joked about this “upgrade” by saying “the store is getting an upgrade”. He has always referred to my hair product storage shelf being like a store. If you think about it, retail stores have to organize products so you can see them, reach them and grab them easily to purchase. I applied this store organization idea to how I store my hair products.
I’m 5 foot 1 inch so it’s a bit taller than me
I need to be able to grab things quickly sometimes and I also like to see what I have so I don’t buy something if I already have it. You can also apply this home organization solution to your closet, bathroom and more. If you use something every day, it should be organized to help you remember exactly where you put it.
The cabinet without the lights on
The Problem
My first gold and white shelf (see those shelves here on Amazon) organization in my “getting ready” area was great for a long while. You can see a tour of that first organization solution here.

Then the shelves started to look gross due to oils from my products soaking through them and the dust kept building up. It was a pain to always take all the products off the shelves, dust, and then put them back.
My organized hair products
So, for this time around, I decided to get a cabinet that could keep my products organized but would keep the dust levels on my products down. I also wanted to minimize the clutter. I get many hair products and tools to test for free. The ones I don’t end up loving or just don’t need, I find new homes for them, but many I keep. This adds up over time, so I needed a larger cabinet with a bit more space.
This cabinet matches my bedroom and getting ready area
The Solution
I ended up selecting the Better Homes & Gardens Springwood Storage Cabinet from Walmart. You can see it and buy it here on their site. It also comes in a black and brown combo, but I selected the Light Honey Finish as the space it was going in was a bit dark and too much black would have made it darker.
The lights help me see all my tools and products
Our Better Homes & Gardens egg chairs from Walmart held up after being tossed around in 3 hurricanes (read my story about my hurricane egg chairs here), so I didn’t hesitate to buy anything else from the brand.

This cabinet is easy to vacuum under too!
The cabinet is 31.50" L X 18.03" W X 65.98" H when put together. It is a bit heavy which makes it feel sturdy and it makes me confident that it will hold up well. My husband put it together in about 30 minutes as it came with good instructions. He used his drill and a flat head screwdriver to put it together.
It has a strap you can attach to the wall for stabilization because it can be top heavy if you put a lot in it. The strap is great if you have small children, live in a hurricane or in an earthquake zone.

How I Organized It
I already had some products and tools in baskets from T.J. Maxx so I loaded those into the cabinet and along the shelf that is on the bottom. I added some of my hair tool organizers, which you can see in my 1-minute video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
I laid out some protective liner on the shelves where I would be adding products. I already had some Gorilla Grip white liner on hand and liked it in other areas of our home, so I cut some and put it on the shelves before adding all my hair products. I was thinking to use paper liner, but the plastic-like surface of the Gorilla Grip liner definitely will keep my shelves clean and oil free.

The Cordless Lighting
I wanted a bit more light in the cabinet so I could see all products at night more easily, so we purchased a set of three puck lights from Amazon. They are battery operated, so we stuck them on with some Velcro-like heavyweight picture hanging Command strips from Amazon. We tested the basic sticky ones and they could not hold the lights up like the plastic Velcro-like ones. The right hanging hardware matters and you can read more about that in this helpful article by This Old House.

The lights are remote control, so you just point it at each light and turn them on. Sometimes you have to turn them on one at a time, but if you at the right angle all three will turn on and off at the same time. They are color changing so you can have fun with your cabinet lighting for sure!
I love this cabinet!
Overall, I love this cabinet and hair storage solution. The doors are soft closing, it has plenty of room and is very stylish. It fit my boho home décor aesthetic and also has matching cabinets and tables in the collection that I may add to our home at some point. I’m already eyeing the Springwood side table too!
