The Inspiration
Years ago, I created a recipe for natural weed killer and it is very effective. See that article here. Then I received a bottle of Spruce Weed and Grass Killer to test that is safe for use around people, pets and bees.
A store-bought weed killer is something we didn’t consider in prior years, as we haven’t been able to find a safe version, but Spruce finally stepped up to the challenge! I put it to the test ASAP (even in late November in SWFL, we have weeds).

Why Buy Spruce Instead of Making My Weed Spray?
While the natural weed killer is effective, the Florida weeds just come right back, so you will have to make it often and use it weekly for weed control. The Spruce is effective too, but it also helps prevent re-growth of weeds as it dehydrates to kill the roots. We have pets and an abundance of honey bees, so we were happy to see this Spruce product being safe for them and humans!

My Process + Results
As I said above, the Southwest Florida weeds always come back, especially in the summer rain season. They also sprout up year-round, so I’m always pulling them out in our shell landscaping and sidewalk areas. We have a double lot, so we have quite a bit of natural landscaping with seashells and pine straw.
Using the automatic wand is easy
I used the very handy sprayer of the 64 oz. bottle, following the directions, to spray some weeds in our backyard area. It smelled like citronella, which was great instead of smelling like chemicals. I sprayed it on a sunny day at 4:00 in the afternoon.
Spruce is effective!
By 10 am the next morning (another sunny day, no rain), the weeds had turned into a dark green/brown color. By the following morning, they were fully brown.
Final Thoughts
Overall, if you are looking for a better weed and grass spray, try Spruce! It’s easy to use (it’s no-mix and mess free), smells good and is effective!
