How To Create a Healing Room With Pops of Color

In need of some color in your life? Try adding some pops of color! We took a room in our home, formerly my “anti-anxiety room”, and turned it into a healing room. What started out as a dark, steamy and hot 10’ x 10’ room that makes up the “third floor” of our Sanibel Island home, is now a space that always makes me “healed” when I exit.

Read on to see how to create a healing room with pops of color to your home or business.

We Added a DIY Safety Railing

You can see the before and after photos of this space by clicking this link. It was set up as sort of an “attic” space that had a strange door, broken windows and plain plywood flooring. I was a sad, sad little room.

After making all the necessary updates like adding new windows, a mini-split and flooring, I played around with different types of furniture and decor to make it feel happier.

The one thing that I really wanted for the space was for it to feel more inviting. I love painting a room in some sort of warm white color (white gives me a blank “canvas” to create around) and then I started with adding gold and white decor like fluffy blankets and pillows.

Our Bird’s Eye View Room

I added some floor cushions, but I still felt like I needed to be able to sit up higher to see the gorgeous view that surrounds the room. It has a 360 degree of my neighborhood and a protected wildlife preserve. So I added my massage table. I still had it from my last home in the studio space I set up in our attic.

I took some measurements to see where it would fit, then added it on one side of the room and covered in a twin sheet and layered lots of blankets on top to give it extra cushion.

Because I am a certified Reiki master, I often perform reiki on my friends and family members that come to visit. It definitely helped calm my mom after having knee surgery. If you aren’t familiar with Reiki healing, check out this page on my site to learn more.

Opposite the Reiki table, I added a desk I already had. This space is very quiet, making it a perfect little retreat for conference calls or just for working on something creative. I added a colorful ottoman from T.J. Maxx and some other decor items from Amazon and Target.

The Do What You Love neon sign that hangs on one wall is one of my own creations. Learn how to make it yourself by clicking this link. When we took off the attic style door to the room, we added a pipe safety railing with some beachy netting. Learn how to make it yourself by clicking this link.

Unicorn Lamp and Positive Vibes Only Sign

Adding Positive Vibes to Any Space With Unicorns and Signs

No healing room is complete without adding some cute signs that breed positivity. I added a “Positive Vibes Only” sign next to a wood round that I had from a farmhouse-style wedding I helped with and a unicorn lamp from Target.

I play around with the placement of decor until I find the right “fit”. I have styled this room about three different times and think I have finally settled on how it should be set up.

This is my go-to room design process: If you are unsure about how to set up a healing room, or any room in your house, I suggest spending a few minutes in the room every day until you can envision what it should look like and how it should feel. It can take a few days, weeks or months, but it will eventually feel perfect. Pull inspiration from websites, advertisements, commercials, television shows, businesses, magazines and more.

Reiki Healing Feathers and Crystals

Crystals and sage are also a large part of healing. I added lots of them on top of a cube storage unit that I filled with storage baskets to easily contain all my healing tools and art supplies. I found my feathers on the ground in one of my favorite healing locations, the gorgeous and historical Cave Hill Cemetery.

How I Organized My Reiki Supplies

I had the storage cube unit from my previous home and I recently added the baskets. I got them from Target, waiting to buy them until they went on sale.

Ceiling with Bird Wallpaper

Lastly, I wanted to show the wallpapered ceiling we created in our healing room. I used peel and stick wallpaper, which I am not incredibly happy with due to it having some bubbles and bumps, but overall it did make the plain plywood ceiling much more stylish.
