Traditional cleaning products can contain harsh ingredients, heavy fragrances, and irritants that build up in the air — especially tough for kids, pets, and anyone with allergies or sensitivities. I wanted products that:

When shopping for healthier home products, I focus on:

No harsh chemical fumes

These small changes add up quickly when you’re cleaning daily like we do due to having 3 fur babies!

My Favorite Healthier Home Care Swaps
Here are the types of products that truly changed the game for us:
1. Gentle All-Purpose Cleaners
Look for plant-based formulas that still cut grease and grime without overpowering scents. These are perfect for kitchens, counters, and high-touch surfaces. We love Method (we get it at Target, try their margarita-like scent!) cleaners and shower daily cleaner and Seventh Generation (Target and Amazon). The Seventh Generation Ultra Deep cleaner knocks out stovetop grease quick and is very lightly scented.
Now, we currently live in Southwest Florida, so there are times when the only thing that will kill the mold that grows here constantly is Clorox Cleaner + Bleach. It is what it is. We do love their coconut and water lily scented cleaner as it’s not as harsh as some others.
I use Dedcool room sprays in my bedroom too! My VELVET bedspread is from The Company Store!
2. Fragrance-Free Laundry Products
Laundry detergents and fabric softeners can be major sneeze triggers. Switching to fragrance-free or lightly scented options helped reduce irritation instantly. We love Seventh Generation. Their small bottle of Ultra Power + Laundry Detergent (unscented) concentrated formula is so lightweight, which is great if you have to carry your shopping bags up lots of stairs.
Dedcool makes some laundry soap that smells light and fresh if you need scent.
If you use laundry beads, Sam’s Club has the best price on Downy Light Scent Booster (a lighter scented laundry bead perfect for allergy prone families).

3. Low-Irritant Floor Cleaners
Floors hold onto residue more than you think. A gentler cleaner keeps floors clean without releasing strong fumes — especially important for kids and pets. We love Method floor cleaners (Target) and even got my father-in-law using them too. He loves how they smell!

4. Healthier Air Sprays + Perfumes
Instead of masking odors, these products help freshen the space without heavy perfumes that linger in the air. Dedcool (it’s a cruelty free brand meaning they do not do animal testing!) makes some amazing room sprays (Xtra Milk is light but smells divine in our bedroom!), perfumes (Mochi Milk is my fav and never makes me or my dogs sneeze when I spray it….score!), and we also love their bodywash in Taunt.
The Difference I Noticed Right Away
After making these swaps, our home felt:
Fresher without artificial smells
Easier to breathe in
More comfortable for everyone
Cleaner without that “chemical clean” scent
And best of all — no more sneezing during cleaning days.
