As Autumn approaches, it gets colder, leaves start to fall and we start embracing our coziest clothes, our practical ankle boots and just live off delicious hot chocolate or pumpkin spice drinks. There is a reason why Fall is a lot of people’s favorite time of the year. There is a lot of love about autumn, being all snuggled up, having delicious comfort food for dinner but there are things we need to do in preparation for the weather change too.
Despite living in south Florida, where it stays warm for most of the year, my husband and I still have to deal with leaves. It’s one of the many things we’ve noticed we have to keep up with in the fall and all year-round. While the leaves are a minor irritant, they do remind us of how the old falls away to make room for the new.
Here are some more things that I recommend you do in order to get your home ready for fall and ready for the new.
Make a cozy porch-scape to get your home ready for fall.
As we get colder weather and wind we want to make sure our house is ready to handle it. When there are drafts or ways the cold can get in it takes a lot more for us to warm the house up and our bills can end up being a lot more expensive.
So one of the things you can do is to go around and check the sealant on the windows and make sure it hasn’t worn away too much, if it has you can look to get it replaced. You can also pick up draught pillows (draft stopper) that go at the bottom of your door and stop anything from coming through.
Your roof is another way you may find that leaks can get in or it can let heat out so it is best to get professional advice from a professional leak roof specialist to help you manage that element.
Use peppermint oil as a natural spider deterrent
Once we have done all of those we can look to do the more fun stuff. If you find you get more spiders in your house as the weather gets colder put mint oil or even mint plants by windows and doors. Spiders don’t like it and it can act as a deterrent for them.
Try adding cute sweater decor to ready your home for fall.
Moving into a new season brings exciting holidays and traditions, a great thing to do is to deep clean and declutter your home in these times. So sort out the big things first like clothes, books and your kitchen cupboards. You will feel so much better once you’ve given your house a clean slate and feel less cluttered.
You can also do things like clean out the fridge, clean the oven and sort through the pantry, then you can move onto any DIY that needs doing.
Try adding warm scented candles to ready your home for fall.
A popular and most effective way to get your home feeling all cozy and ready for autumn is by introducing autumn scents, you can do this by getting scented candles, autumn flowers as well as natural options like potpourri. Autumn scents are all about warm and musty smells. You want to focus on things like cinnamon, vanilla and spiced apple.
Adding pumpkins to your porch helps get your home ready for fall.
You can then add home decor items like pumpkins, plaid patterns, throws and blankets that will be used to snuggle up on the sofa with as well as going all out and getting an autumn wreath for your front door.
Watching cats snuggle on a cozy couch
Autumn is a time for family, gathering around the dinner table, going trick or treating, snuggling up on the sofa with hot chocolate to watch a film. So making sure your home is up to scratch with no drafts, leaks or issues is the perfect way to kick start getting ready for autumn.
