How To Make a Tulle Christmas Wreath Ornament

Carolyn J. Braden • 2 Minute Read

I’ve always loved tulle. Tulle reminds me of the beautiful costumes of the Nutcracker ballet, a performance I went to every Christmas with my Nani (my maternal grandma). I took lots of dance classes myself and always dreamed of being able to dance in the same beautiful tulle skirts one day. While that dream did not come true, I have found a way to keep tulle in my life.

Our dog, Johnny Cash, and our wreath ornament

From my hand crafted festival and wedding crowns, to tulle skirts and more, I love wearing tulle and creating with it. I saw a giant tulle wreath made with tulle recently and it reminded me of a tulle skirt I made for my niece when she was teeny tiny. I remembered how easy it was (it was no sew!) and imagined using my same process from the skirt to make a cute ornament or gift topper. Read on to learn how to make a tulle Christmas Wreath Ornament.

Directions:

1.     Cut about 20 pieces of tulle to about 9 inches. Set aside

2.     Fold one piece of tulle in half and place under one ring.

Looping the tulle around the ornament

3.     Loop the long ends through the looped end and pull. Basically you are tying it onto the wood ring.

4.     Repeat looping the tulle around the wood ring until it is full and covers the ring. Mine 2.2” wood ring held about 20 loops.

My wood ring held about 20 loops of tulle

5.     Use your scissors to trim the tulle to your desired length.

6.     Tie a small bow using your ribbon or else use a pre-made tiny bow

7.     Use your hot glue gun on a low temperature to attach the bow to your wreath.

The jute can be used to hang the tulle ornament from a Christmas tree

8.     Cut a piece of jute and loop it around the top of the ornament and tie a knot.

9.     Either hang from a tree or attach it to a gift to be a cute topper AND an extra gift for your recipient.

You can do a candy cane effect by using red and white tulle instead of the green. Or, use gold or rose gold tulle for a glittering Sugar Plum Fairy type of a Christmas wreath ornament. You can even use my process to make a giant tulle wreath.

I plan to make more tulle ornaments in different colors

Just use a styrofoam wreath form and lots of tulle! Make a big bow for your wreath using a Bowdabra (I use one to make beautiful bows and love it!). This project can be customized to you and what you like. Give them as gifts, sell them at craft fairs or do this easy project with a fun kid in your life.
