Beachy Braided Crown Half Up Hairstyle Tutorial

If you are looking for some heat free hairstyles, look no further! I love creating heat free hairstyles (my sponge roller tutorial continues to get saved on social media!) and I especially love braids! I came up with this tutorial for a beachy braided crown after seeing a version of it worn on a Housewives episode.

This is an easy everyday or beachy hairstyle idea

The “housewife” always had cute braided hairstyles and I attempted to recreate one and came up with my own version. Read on to learn how to create a beachy braided crown half up hairstyle.

See the hair tutorial in my short video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:

Divide and braid your hair

1—First, part your hair down the center. I like to use a long ended hair comb to make my part perfect. You can do this on clean hair or day-old hair. If your hair is really, really clean, I like to add some try shampoo or texturing spray to help the braid hold a bit. I like Not Your Mother’s Plump for Joy Dry Shampoo and use it almost every day.

Both braids are made out of a small amount of hair

2—Next, I took a small section of hair at the front of my part on one side and braided it. I secured it with a clear polyband elastic hair tie. I buy them in bulk. I created a second braid on the other side of my part (matching the other braid).

Fluffing up the braids

3—Then, while the braids are secured with an elastic, I loosen the braid using my fingers. I basically “pull it apart” and the braid gets wider and “fluffy”. I did this to each braid.

Teasing my hair using a teasing brush

4—I used a teasing brush to tease up the back of my hair at the crown of my head.

The back of the hairstyle

5—I then pulled some of the sides of my hair back with the braids and secured my hair at the back of my head in the “half up” style with a large ponytail holder. I pulled some of my hair out of the ponytail to create a small “bump” of hair.

I used a flat iron to create loose waves

6—You can either leave the rest of your hair as is to keep it completely heat free OR you can use a flat iron or curling iron to create waves in the rest of your hair. I use a Conair Infinitipro 1 inch flat iron along with some heat protect spray to create loose waves.

I used a large barrel curling iron to create loose curls too

I also tried this style using my Beachwaver rotating curling iron to create big curls on my loose hair and it looked nice too!

Hair rings with seashells

7—I added some hair rings with seashells attached to the braids and put on my fun bikini girl bathing suit cover up for a beachy look.

I also used an angel wing and a star hair ring

For an everyday look, I added an angel wing and star hair ring from the same set and put on my You Matters TEMU tee.

I added a single hair ring on the other side of my head

This is an extremely easy hairstyle to create. You could just wear the braids loose instead of pulling them back into a ponytail holder. You could also pull all your hair back into a ponytail if you need your hair up off your neck. Instead of a ponytail holder, you could pull back the braids only and secure them with some bobby pins.
