Home Improvements That Add Top Value to Your Home

Have you been thinking about the kind of improvements that you can make to your home? If so, we did some research for you! There are a whole range of changes that you can consider making, but a lot of people want to know what the best ones are. The honest answer is that it depends on a number of contributing factors such as where you live and what your house is like.

But, there are a few common improvements that everyone can focus on, and we’re going to be looking at some of them in this article. Keep reading to learn more about top home improvements that will add value to your home.

1- Storm Protection

Storm protection is important. Even if you don’t live in an area that is known for being particularly stormy, it never hurts to be prepared. All it takes is one storm to completely damage your home in ways that are going to take you ages to repair, when you can take preventative measures now to avoid this.

For example, one of the things that you should be thinking about are your windows. Instead of having standard windows, why not think about installing hurricane windows (otherwise known as impact resistant windows) in your home? This way, they are less likely to shatter under the immense pressure of the winds, and you can sleep easier when that storm comes.

We added impact resistant windows to our home shortly after buying it making our insurance cost much less (almost 50%!) and we skyrocketed the value of our home as well. Living in a hurricane zone (Sanibel Island, Florida), hurricane windows are highly sought after when considering a home purchase. Despite having to get a white framed window (over the black frame that I loved, but couldn’t afford), we were able to dress them up with bamboo roman shades and curtains

You’ve also got to get up on the roof and make sure that it is secure. The roof is your main protector when it comes to your home, so you need to make sure that it is in good condition, not leaking etc.

2- Conversion Options

Conversions are very ‘in’ right now, so it might be something that you want to consider. Basement and loft conversions are two of the most popular choices, taking a space that is generally used for storage and turning it into something more useful.

For example, some people might want to turn this into an extra bedroom, where others might want to use the space as a home gym or home office. You could speak to a professional to get an idea as to what your options are, depending on the shape of the room, how much space there is etc. But, it’s certainly something to consider when thinking about home improvements that will add top value to your home.

Before we sold our last home, we converted an unused (and strange!) second stairwell into a pantry. It added an incredibly large amount of usable space! See how we easily did it by clicking this link.

Kitchen And Bathrooms

When you hear about improvements, your mind probably goes straight to kitchens and bathrooms. The last thing that people want is a kitchen that they don’t like, or a bathroom that looks like it was updated in the early 1950’s. As such, if you’re going to be making improvements to your home, we recommend that you start here if necessary.

My husband and I have renovated every single bathroom and kitchen in each home we’ve owned. They have always been our “money makers” during our home sales, especially since we completed most of the home improvements ourselves.
