Top Housework Chores To Add To Your To-Do List Now

There are so many different things that the majority of us will try to fit into our weekly routines. We need to head to work. We need to stick to social plans. We have exercise routines that we try to stick to. Those of us with kids have a whole load of extra tasks to take into consideration, ranging from the school run to attending after-school events and hobbies. The list goes on.

Writing out a chore checklist can be helpful

One constant that we do need to spend time focusing on as part of a routine basis, however, is our housework. Our homes are the spaces where we spend a huge amount of our time. It’s where we rest and relax. It’s where we sleep. It’s where we prepare our meals. It’s where we bathe and get ready. It’s where we form memories with kids, pets and other loved ones. It’s where we entertain family and friends.

It’s not all too surprising that dirt can quickly build up and needs to be tackled. But what housework should you be adding to your to-do list that you might not be doing properly right now? Here are some options to add to your own list!

1- Floor Cleaning

A kitchen should be kept clean on a daily basis

Sure, we all brush up crumbs and will do some basic surface cleaning when we spill things on our floors. But when’s the last time you gave the floors in your home a proper clean? Think how much dirt builds up on this surface over time. Whether that’s spilled foods and drinks, dirt from pets paws, people wearing shoes in the house or anything else, you need to make sure that you’re conducting a deep floor clean on all floors in your home every now and then.

For hard floors, such as wood floors or tile, you should start by sweeping up any debris and then create a good solution of cleaning detergent and water. Make sure the cleaner is non-toxic if you have pets and make sure it’s appropriate for the type of floor you have. Mop the floors thoroughly and allow them to dry. If you want to go all out, you could use a steam cleaner. Basic vacuuming can be done daily (especially if you have pets), mopping can be done weekly or monthly, and steaming can be done bi-annually.

Deep cleaning carpets can be done yearly

If you have carpets, vacuuming is fine on a day to day basis, but you should make sure to use a proper carpet cleaner or a company like Chem-Dry to use professional carpet cleaning machines and detergents to really lift the dirt from the pile.

2- Baseboards

Baseboards can easily be cleaned up with Magic Erasers

While you are cleaning the floors, you may as well clean up your baseboards too. The best way to make baseboards look super clean is to paint them. It doesn’t take a lot of time and it truly makes your house look so much better. White paint is best if you want to make them brighter. Or, you could try painting them in the same color of the wall, as this is very on-trend in the home decor world.

If you don’t have time to paint your baseboards, try using a Magic Eraser. I use Magic Erasers to remove scuff marks on walls, stairs, and baseboards. All you need is water to make this incredibly helpful tool work cleaning magic.

3- Oven Cleaning

Many modern ovens have self-cleaning modes

Of course, life would be easier and your oven would stay clean if you conducted a quick clean after every use. But the truth is, the majority of us potentially use our ovens between two and three times a day, and you’re not going to keep up with cleaning this often. This often results in dirt and grime really building up and causing a hard-to-tackle mess.

Often times, we need to use chemical cleaners to properly lift baked in food debris from the walls, doors and trays of our ovens. You can buy these kits in many stores - just make sure to follow the instructions carefully and to wear the proper protective wear.

Make sure you use appropriate cleaners on different types of floors

An alternative option is to hire an oven cleaner who will be able to take the hard work from your hands. Consider cleaning air fans and vents at this point too, as grease and grime can build up here and can be difficult to remove. Oven cleaning should be done yearly, or more often if you have some messy cooking situations.

These are just some areas to add to your to-do list when you start deep cleaning your home. Hopefully, focusing on them will make all the difference!
