How To Stay Entertained When You’re At Home
Keeping yourself entertained at home can sometimes feel like a real challenge. There are some evenings or weekends where you’ve got no inspiration on what to do to keep occupied. Whether you’re alone at home or you live with family, friends, or a partner, there are plenty of things to get up to in order to stay entertained.
To relieve that boredom and to make the most out of your day or evening, here are a few tips that will ensure you keep entertained and have fun.
Have a potluck dinner with your friends or family
Call your friends or family to come around
First and foremost, be sure to call your friends or family to come around if you’re feeling a little lonely. While it’s important to have some alone time, everyone needs to socialize every once in a while - even those that consider themselves to be introverted!
With that being said, be sure to call your friends or family to come around so that you can enjoy a bit of time with them. You could watch a movie, have a coffee and chat or just chill in each other’s presence.
I like to bake, which is a great idea to do if you get bored at home. See my ice cream cupcake video tutorial that goes perfectly with a Taylor Swift song below or via our YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
It’s important to spend some quality time with your loved ones and it helps bust the boredom that you might be feeling when it comes to hanging around in your own space all day, every day. Particularly in these times where a lot of people are working from home now.
Hang out with a friend or family member while watching a movie
Try streaming new shows or movies
Streaming has become the go-to when it comes to watching television shows or movies. While there are still plenty of traditional formats available, including taking a trip to the cinema or buying a DVD from your local entertainment store, streaming is easier.
However, when it comes to streaming, it’s important to be aware of what movies or shows you’ve got access to and how much this will cost you to enjoy. For those who want to save money, then you might want to look at popcorn time alternatives. Popcorn Time was a free streaming service that got banned due to copyright laws.
There are still plenty of alternatives to this now-banned platform that are worth taking advantage of.
Do a decluttering of your closet
If boredom has taken over and you’re looking for things to do around the home, then a great one is to do a decluttering of your closet. There’s nothing more satisfying than this, especially if your closet is in disarray and in desperate need of tidying up.
There might be clothes that you’ve not worn for a while or need to try on to see if you still fit in them or find them appealing to wear. You may have a few clothes in your closet that have seen better days and could do with throwing out.
Decluttering can be a very therapeutic experience and one you can take further than just the closet itself. If you’ve got a lot of time on your hands, why not declutter the rest of your space? It might be too much of a task to take on if you’ve only got a couple of hours to burn away though.
Draw yourself a spa-like bath and read a good book
Read a book you’ve been meaning to start
Reading is a great pastime that’s useful to pick up, regardless of what genre you enjoy reading. It’s something that can be great when you’re wanting to learn something new or to keep yourself entertained.
Have you got a new book that’s been left on your bookshelf and hasn’t been read yet? Make yourself a hot drink, sit down on the couch or in your reading nook, and enjoy the book. There’s nothing like a reading session to waste away a few hours.
Create a scrapbook for old photos
A scrapbook is a must-have for anyone that’s looking to make use of photos that are currently being stored away and perhaps aren’t being fully utilized. Scrapbooks are great for condensing down photos and sentimental items in the form of tickets, postcards, and other small items.
If you’re looking to take advantage of the creative side within you, then creating a scrapbook is an absolute must!
Pamper yourself and your fur babies
Have a pampering session
There’s nothing more enjoyable than a pampering session. From painting your nails to applying a face mask, these are a great way to keep yourself entertained at home and to give yourself some much-needed self-care, a habit that’s important for your mental health. Make sure to allocate some time to this every week and make it a regular habit in your life.
Staying entertained when you’re at home is easy enough when you have the ideas available, so make use of this list when boredom strikes.
