There’s no denying that lots of people strive for audio quality perfection from their home setup. After all, people enjoy listening to high-quality music and dancing to it! The trouble is, many of those individuals aren’t aware of the necessary components for achieving that goal.

As you can imagine, there are thousands of different home hi-fi products on the market. Navigating your way through the different categories, let alone the products themselves, can be a nightmare.
My husband (the music tech-savvy one between the two of us) has learned a thing or two over the years about putting together a great home sound system and would like to share what he’s learned with others.

Here are some must-have components to help you build the perfect setup:
1. Receiver Amplifier

When you want to listen to the radio or switch between different audio sources, you need an integrated receiver amplifier unit. There was once a time where you had to buy separate receivers and amplifiers, but nowadays, they are combined units.
As you browse through the different models on offer, you should choose one that offers the best future-proofing. For example, a receiver amplifier with Bluetooth means you can stream wireless audio sources with ease.
When comparing specs, you should also look at models with the highest RMS wattage available for your budget, such as the Denon AVC-X3700H. A higher RMS means you can listen to music louder without sound clipping or distortion.
2. Speakers

Once you have a receiver amplifier, you need some way to listen to the audio processed through it. There are many speakers on the market for home hi-fi systems, and you can categorize them into bookshelf or floor standing models.
Bookshelf speakers will make sense if you wish to mount your speakers on walls (or bookshelves). Floorstanding ones are better if floor space isn’t at a premium. Check out speakers like the Harbeth P3ESR for the ultimate in sound clarity.
3. Speaker Cables

When you buy hi-fi speakers, they seldom come with any cables to attach to your receiver amplifier. Why? The answer is simple: most people want to choose the type and quality of speaker cables for their setup.
As you can appreciate, premium-quality speaker cables such as the KS 6068 from Kimber Kable are the best you can get. They are the sort of cables you’d buy if you set up a recording studio, for example. Avoid cheap cables as they are often low-quality examples.
4. Turntable

No home hi-fi system is complete without a turntable (record player) and a collection of vinyl records! Turntables are an essential part of any decent hi-fi setup, and the resurgence in popularity of vinyl records has meant new turntable models are flooding the market.
If money is no object, you should consider the Marantz TT-15S1. It’s not a turntable for vinyl newbies, nor is it a product that you’d find at the cheaper end of the market. But if you’re after crystal-clear audio clarity from your vinyl, it’s the turntable for you.
5. CD Player

Lastly, do you remember those shiny silver discs that people bought before the dawn of online music streaming? If you’ve got a vast collection of CDs, you will need a CD player for your hi-fi setup.
While packing for our recent move, my husband and I came across our HUGE collection of tons of CD’s. We decided to keep them because their sound quality is still awesome and we really liked having hard copies of our favorite music.
If you don’t have a CD player, we like the Denon brand. One of the hottest models available is the Denon Anniversary Edition DCD-A110. It features an impressive DAC, and it offers clean playback thanks to its vibration-resistant chassis and Denon’s patented drive mechanism.
