Our Walmart Egg Chairs That Survived a Hurricane

Our Walmart Egg Chairs That Survived a Hurricane

One way to deal with the trauma associated by our Hurricane Ian experience on September 28th, 2022, I write about it. Being on the other side of all the flood damage, wind damage, lawyers, insurance companies and more, it’s hard to look at some of the images (see our article that shows before and after the storm by clicking here) and understand what many went through.

Tommy and Carolyn Braden post Hurricane Ian

Instead of dwelling on the horrible side of the hurricane (it reached a level 4 on land, but many indicators state it was a level 5 when it hit Sanibel), we are choosing to move past it and see all the crazy good things that happened. One amazing thing that happened (other than our actual house surviving as well as it did) was that our second-floor porch furniture remained unbroken.

Keeping the smiles going is easy with these cute pups!

Our downstairs porch area flooded and we lost a lot there (our pool turned into a muddy, mucky fish-filled pond filled with furniture), but our screened in area off the back of our house had a door rip off, screens were torn out, fan blades ripped off, but our egg chairs we bought from Walmart several years ago remained almost perfect.

Our dog, Johnny Cash, LOVES these chairs

I’ve written about our love of egg chairs before the storm hit, and because these held up so well, I thought I should shout praises for them again, post Hurricane Ian. They are the Better Homes and Garden brand and very well priced at under $300. I have seen egg chairs and patio furniture cost quite a bit, and with having several porches to outfit at our Sanibel Island home, I had to fit our décor into a budget.

I cover the cushions just to help them last longer

The chairs are a metal frame and the “wicker” material is a type of a plastic. I took a gamble when ordering the chairs because the fabric is a cream color and many cream-colored porch items get spotted with mold in our humid area of Southwest Florida.

When we returned at one-month post storm to start clean-up efforts (we had to wait as the Sanibel Causeway leading to our home was destroyed) we saw the chairs were toppled over and the cushions were windswept down to the other side of the porch.

The chairs are comfy and roomy

My husband set the chairs back up, placed the cushions back on and other than some grassy debris being on the cushions (there was no mold!!!), they were still perfect. Wind ripped siding off and entire side of our house, it ripped off a door, it blew a lot of our roof off (oh, the leaks!), but those chairs were still perfect. Metal on our outdoor sink in the same area was super rusted from the salty winds of the storm, but the metal on those chairs were perfect still.

Johnny Cash and Minnie Pearl love our porch

If you are in the market for an egg chair that is a bit of a survivor, check out these chairs. Grab them here from Walmart.com. They are large and very comfortable to sit in. I have been very impressed with many of Walmart’s items, especially this cookware set we bought for our former RV. We use it in our home’s kitchen because it’s awesome!

We spend a lot of time playing on our porch

The cost is budget friendly and the items actually hold up better than some high-end products. Thanks to places like Walmart, you don’t have to sacrifice style when it comes to budget friendly home decor.
