How to Make Your House Feel More Like a Home
Most people want to live in a space that feels like it truly belongs to them and no one else. If you feel as if your home in its current form doesn’t really feel much like a home or much like your home specifically, it’s time to do something about that.

I’ve spent the last year trying to make our Sanibel Island house feel like a home and have learned a thing or two during the process. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the actions you can take if you want to put a personal stamp on your space.
Read on to learn how to make your house feel more like a home.

1- Opt for a Comforting Color Palette
First of all, you should have a long think about the color palette that you feel is going to work best for your home. When you’re looking to make a house feel more like a home, you’re going to want it to feel comforting and inviting from the moment you walk through the front door. So it’s up to you to find a color palette that best embodies those sensations.
If you aren’t ready to take a risk into the world of bold colors, I always suggest to opt for a neutral palette of creamy whites, soft browns or modern grays. These colors are soothing and match most home decor.

2- Improve the Fragrance
One thing that’s often overlooked but can have a big impact on how your home feels on the inside is the fragrance. When you have a fragrance that smells of home and smells of all the things we associate with an idyllic family home, it makes such a big difference. It could be the smell of fresh lavender or the smell of baking bread; that’s up to you.

3- Add the Details and Finishing Touches That Are Missing
Adding a few details and bringing the interior design together with the right finishing touches really can make such a big difference. A home can feel a little too bare and minimal if you don’t have those little details in place that make the place feel like it truly belongs to you and less like a show home. You can add some vintage metal signs, plants, finishings or whatever you like that you feel is missing.

4- Hang Some Art
Hanging some art on the walls of your home could have a really positive impact on your home’s interiors and how personalized the space feels. It’s hard to make a home feel like yours when it’s bare; it can often make the space feel empty and lacking something. But when you have art that speaks to you and carries real meaning, the home immediately starts to feel like it belongs to you.
I like to decorate my home with photos of my pets that I’ve taken myself. Looking at their sweet faces in the photos when I’m sitting in my office always puts me at ease.

5- Use Lots of Pillows and Throws
Using lots of pillows and throws throughout the home will have a big impact on how comfortable the place is. The last thing you should ever be in your own home is uncomfortable, and that’s why it makes sense to put these things in place. You’ll find it so much easier to relax when you do.

Making your house feel more like a home will is a process that takes time, and it’s worth putting in the effort. By the time you reach the point at which your home feels warm, inviting and like a place that truly belongs to you, you’ll be glad that you took the time to make the kinds of changes discussed above.
