We’ve been doing mini-makeovers all over our home. It was just time for a REFRESH.
Our foyer makeover started with an idea to make a version of this shoe tray I saw on Pinterest. I found some with wheels, some really large, some really difficult to make and so I decided to come up with my own EASY version.
I found the tray at Hobby Lobby (on sale of course) and added some river rocks I had leftover from a landscaping project. Because of buying the rocks in bulk from a landscaping place and the tray being on sale, we made this for less than $20.

It took me a while to find a good tray because it needed to be very sturdy (made of thick wood so it could easily hold the rocks if moved around the room) and it needed to be wide enough for our shoes to fit. My husband has larger shoes than I, so we tested it out with his shoe size and this one was perfect.
I added larger rocks by the handles (to keep the smaller rocks from falling out) and then added all the other rocks by hand so they would “lock” and stay put.

It was a super cute addition to our foyer. If I had a family with children, I would make several of these and then place them under a bench so everyone could sit while taking off and putting on shoes.
See the photos below of the rest of the little tweaks I made to update our foyer.

We’ve collected many beautiful vintage pieces of furniture since the year 2000 and sometimes we “shop” our own house when it comes to doing a room makeover.
We removed the couch from the foyer and moved it to our dining room. Then we added a chair we had in our bedroom. My husband fell in love with this chair when he saw the original by Plycraft. We found this copy in an antique store at a very good price and he snatched it up instantly.
I found the natural woven circular rug at target.com. It’s from the Hearth & Hand collection by Chip and Joanna Gaines. We also added one of the line’s metal baskets to catch our mail when it falls from the mail slot. (not pictured).

We brought in our favorite record player end table (that also has a WORKING radio!) from our attic. This was one of first furniture pieces we ever purchased. We added a record storage box that we purchased on Amazon. We had the vintage lamp already.

We found a pair of awesome vintage sconces on Facebook Marketplace from a local seller. Both were about $65.

I already had this tree print. I purchased it years ago at a thrift store. It was only $8.00. We find most of our home art at thrift stores and peddler’s malls. They are filled to the brim sometimes with great finds!
