When I was a little girl, I would often walk outside in the grass without any shoes on. My grandma told me to be careful, and I did the best I could until that day I stepped on a bee. I got a little sting on my foot and you’d think I would have worn shoes outside from that day on, but I didn’t and still don’t sometimes. I didn’t know anything about grounding or “earthing” at the time, but I now understand the importance of it and how it can make you feel stable and not so scattered all the time.

I recently was introduced to grounding sheets by a family member. She asked if I had heard of them and I had not. I did know about grounding from practicing Reiki and becoming a Reiki master, so after she told me about grounding sheets, I instantly Googled them to learn more. What Is Grounding or “Earthing”?
If you don’t know a lot about grounding or “earthing”, it’s a way to allow you to connect more with the Earth. We wear shoes a lot, spend a lot of time indoors now days, and some people don’t live anywhere where they can stand on the actual Earth. The “concrete jungles” of the world are really all over and you simply cannot ground yourself the same on poured concrete as you can on the Earth. Grounding can help all ages
According to the National Library of Medicine, grounding has also had research that shows it can help with inflammation, would healing and more. Their journal article talked about grounding systems, like the grounding mat and the grounding sheets, as a way to add more grounding to your life if you cannot simply go outside and do it in on the Earth. The Grounding Mat Results
While there are many grounding products on the market, I liked the simplicity of Grounding Well’s ordering, their customer service sent many informative emails and stayed in contact via email while I awaited my product. The grounding mat I ordered arrived quickly and I instantly unrolled it and let it air out (it did smell a bit “plasticky” as many new things I order now days do) for a bit.
I keep one grounding mat in my reiki room
I plugged it into the GROUNDING HOLE of a power outlet. The directions that come with the mat are very clear and help you understand exactly what to expect and how to use the product. While you are plugging it into the grounding hole, it actually has NO ELECTRICITY running to it.

The ground part of an outlet is meant to ground you and protect you from electric shock. grounding products have been tested to show results. Plugging it into the ground plug scientifically connects us to the earth in a new way. Plugging it into the ground plug also makes the product safe to use with pacemakers, metallic implants and more. If you are still unsure if you can use a grounding product, consult your medical practitioner before doing so.
No, I don’t believe it’s “snake oil” or a placebo effect and I’ve linked out to many great articles (some are medical journals, which are often written by doctors and medical researchers) so you can research grounding for yourself. If you don’t use a grounding product, just go outside and stand barefoot in the grass everyday for a while (if you are able and don’t live in a concrete jungle) and see how you feel. Both grounding products and grounding naturally work the same way.
My husband likes the grounding mat too
I felt nothing in the first few minutes of standing barefooted on the mat, but then all of the sudden, I started feeling a tiny bit tingly in my feet and legs. It was strange to feel that even though there is no electricity running to the mat! After a few minutes, I started to feel just a bit more relaxed. I tested it again while propping it up in my bed and leaning against it with a thin cotton shirt on (as you can ground through natural fibers and even only a palm size amount of skin), and again, I felt a bit more relaxed.
If you cannot ground in nature, a grounding sheet or mat could help
The relaxation alone is nice to feel when we’ve finally finished dealing with the effects of Hurricane Ian (oh the insurance, lawyers and more!) and currently trying to sell our house. If you have a lot of anxiety or stressful life events, I always advise those I love to try natural forms of healing (like yoga, reiki, therapy and more) first if you can, as it’s worth a try. If natural healing doesn’t help or if you are experiencing a health emergency, then you should explore other avenues.
Animals can benefit from grounding

My husband tested it and had the same experience. He read many reviews of grounding products and found many others had the same relaxed feelings. One person even said their cat loved to lay on the mat when it was plugged in.
If you have an indoor cat, they may like it too as animals can benefit from “grounding” too. The Grounding Sheet (Half Sheet) Results
I really liked the grounding mat, so I contacted Grounding Well and they sent me a set of a grounding mat (it’s great to have several) and a grounding sheet. The sheet is not a full sheet. It’s a long and wide piece of fabric that is woven with a silver fiber. It fit across our almost California King bed so my husband and I could both sleep on it easily. We put ours more towards the top of the bed so our backs could get the benefit of grounding while sleeping.

The sheets have a plug that connects to the sheet and to the grounding hold of a power outlet. Yes, you can wash the sheets and their products and they come with instructions for this. The first morning after sleeping on the sheets, I did not wake up with my usually inflamed back. I do have a great mattress, but I often have lower back pain. It was gone after one night of sleeping on the grounding sheet. I thought it was just a coincidence, so I continued testing.

We both get back pain relief from grounding sheets
Morning after morning, my husband and I both (he has lower back pain too) woke up refreshed (no tossing or turning in our sleep occurred!) and our lower back has stopped feeling inflamed upon waking up. Even with all my research and knowledge of grounding, I am still amazed at just my back pain being relieved.

Continued Grounding Results
My lower back still hurts during the day after a while, so I am starting to test using the grounding mat while working. When I am typing up articles like this one, I sit for a while and even with having an ergonomically correct desk set up (oh, I did all the training on this while working in the corporate world and it’s important…read about it here from the UCLA website), I still have pain.
I’m interested in my results with grounding while working and my long-term results of grounding. I wrote this article with my initial 1-2 week test results in mind, which I frequently require when testing something new. You may need more time to see results. They are travel friendly, so we’ll be taking them (especially the sheet…oh how unfamiliar beds can be painful!) on vacations too!

I really liked the grounding mat and half sheet (which we traveled with in June and it was wonderful to have during our AirBnB stay…you never know how those beds are going to feel), and Grounding Well sent me their latest grounding product, the grounding fitted sheet.
I think our pets like our grounding sheets too!
Unlike the “half sheet” this sheet is a full fitted sheet. We got a green king size sheet, which is 95% cotton and 5% silver fiber. The sheet is soft and I enjoy getting the full body grounding results from using it. I think my pets do too.
Strangely enough, my dog, Minnie Pearl, decided to stop sleeping in her crate and in our bed instead once we started using the sheet. I have no idea if it’s a coincidence or not, but after my research about pets and grounding, perhaps she enjoys benefits. I tried to ask her, but well, she’s a dog so…. LOL!

It is very well made, has plugs on both sides (so you can attach the plug on the side closest to an outlet. It did wrinkle a bit after washing it and drying it with their instructions, but I really don’t mind a bit of a wrinkled sheet as they flatten out perfectly after I put it on my bed.

You can ground naturally at the beach!
There are many proven benefits to grounding long term, including the following:
reduced inflammation
more restful sleep
reduced stress and anxiety
alleviation of arthritic symptoms
improved mood
reduced headaches
less wakefulness during sleep
and so much more
Grounding isn’t a one time and done type of situation. It’s like exercise and it’s important to add it to your daily routine if you are interested in trying it. Everyone’s results may vary as well. Yes, you need to plug it into a wall outlet and not by using an extension cord, and again, the products come with these instructions.
They give you a really, really long cord with their products to make this possible. As with adding anything new to your daily health routine, do the research, talk to your doctor and document your own results as I’ve done here.

2025 Update
As of 2025, we are still using the Grounding Well products. We like the half sheet best, as we love grounding while sleeping! It’s also very travel friendly and I was glad to have it with me every time we evacuated for a hurricane in 2024. I truly think it helped my nerves stay calm!
