Luxury Camping at Hilton Head National RV Resort

We completed a three-week RV trip to find our new home, as we will be moving from Sanibel Island Florida in the near future. After our experience with Hurricane Ian, the insurance “game” proved to be a huge hassle that we’d rather not experience again at the level we’ve been at for a long while (we are still without closure to our insurance and home repairs at over 9 months post storm and had to get a lawyer team involved).

With dealing with all of this messy stuff, we look forward to the little good moments of life, like a good road trip. We were looking for a fun little adventure to ease our minds and we definitely found it at Hilton Head National RV Resort.

Our site in Waters Edge at Hilton Head National RV resort

Our three-week trip did not include this RV resort on our itinerary, however our time in Traveler’s Rest, GA proved to not be what we were looking for. We thought Traveler’s Rest may be a contender in our new home search, but after one day, we knew it was not the place for us. Our trip was called the “Feel the Vibe Tour” and if we didn’t feel the vibe of a stop on our itinerary, we left.

When deciding on our impromptu next stop, my husband did a Google search and found that the Hilton Head National RV Resort was nearby. He read the reviews to me and when review after review said it was THE BEST RV resort they have ever been to, we were of course intrigued.

Upon our arrival, we knew it was not like most RV resorts we visited. It was gated (and the gate was actually closed, as many, in our experience, don’t close their gates for some reason), and our check-in process was flawless. We did have to send a photo of our RV prior to booking our stay (which is typical of some resorts), but we had no issues with this.

We currently have a 1995 American Dream motor coach (see a full video tour of our RV on our YouTube channel by clicking here), but it’s in really great shape and has not been turned away from any parks. As soon as we completed check-in, we were personally escorted to our site, which was a wide and spacious, fully-equipped luxury RV paved pad.

The gorgeous and lush plant life at HH National RV Resort

We chose a site online prior to our visit in the regular section of the resort, a bit off to one side (away from the clubhouse and pool area) so it would be a little quieter.

See the set up of our first RV site at HH National RV Resort below:

You can choose a waterfront site with panoramic views, a private retreat surrounded by lush vegetation, or a premium spot near their world-class amenities. Whatever you choose, you can tell each site is meticulously designed to provide you with the ultimate experience in comfort and style.

World-Class Amenities

This RV resort takes luxury to a whole new level. We knew between the lazy river, the café, and the two-acre, securely enclosed dog park (which graciously provides separate play areas for large and small dogs plus complimentary professional dog wash stations), and giant dreamy laundry rooms, we would have plenty to explore.

The handicap accessible pools

The first day we explored by walking around the entire park (you could also rent a golf cart while there) and could see kids and families enjoying the lazy river, but saw many adults solely lounging by the sparkling swimming pool. Groups of people were challenging their friends to a game of pickleball and tennis on their top-of-the-line courts.

The walking and biking trails that go around the entire resort perimeter were amazing, but when it rained, I was able to stay fit and active in their state-of-the-art fitness center. It was Father’s Day weekend we arrived and we saw many leave for the day to tee off at one of the nearby championship golf courses and hanging out with their kiddos in the super fun game room (complete with air hockey and skee ball!) – the options for fun are truly endless!

Our cat, Ross, living his best RV life

Their on-site eatery, The Billy Mac Grille, was THE BEST food we had during our entire time in South Carolina. We spoke with one of the waitstaff members (she was a part of their work-camp team) and she told us their current chef was work-camping at the resort too, but was an award-winning chef from New York.

We tried his version of a South Carolina staple, pimento cheese, and it was gobsmackingly delicious. It was served with crisp and warm pita chips that simply melted in your mouth in cheesy goodness. After eating, I loved perusing the cute gift shop (with plenty of gift ideas for people and pets) in their on-site main clubhouse.

Unmatched Natural Beauty

Located in Bluffton, South Carolina (merely minutes from Hilton Head Island), the resort is nestled amidst some of the most breathtaking natural beauty the region has to offer. We stayed for a few days so we could not only explore the resort, but also the surrounding area. We explored Hilton Head’s pristine beach areas and discovered hidden gems in the surrounding forests, parks and historic cemeteries. Our dogs loved walking around the lake at Jarvis Creek Park. There is plenty to do in the area, like taking a kayaking or boat ride adventure in the nearby ocean and lagoons.

We ate lots of good food while at HH RV resort

Alligators were definitely present in the waters at the adjacent golf course (we saw them personally), but because we live in Florida, we knew to expect this as we have alligators in the estuary behind our house. There are plenty of signs that allow visitors to know where the gators may hang out. We always know to not get our pups near water sources in tropical environments.

We encountered some deer that hung out around the walking trails and gated pool area, some South Carolina fox squirrels (which can be fascinatingly black in color), plenty of gorgeous birds, frogs and more.

Exceptional Hospitality

Between the personal check-in and escort to your site, and the dedicated and friendly staff, you know Hilton Head National RV resort is committed to creating an unforgettable experience for each and every guest. Whether you need assistance with your RV setup, recommendations for local attractions, or simply want to indulge in their concierge services, they to exceed your expectations and ensure every aspect of your stay is perfect.

Laundry room at Hilton Head National RV Resort

After a few days in the regular section of the resort, we decided to try Waters Edge, which is their gated adult-only section of the park. We loved our original site, but wanted to try the perks of Waters Edge, which includes a separate clubhouse and pool. The regular section has plenty of laundry in a gorgeous facility, but Waters Edge has its own laundry room, which was a little less busy than the one in the regular section.

Their natural stone-laden bathrooms were very spa-like and are a great option if you want or need a larger shower to relax in. I was very happy to see their bathrooms and pools be completely handicap accessible too.

We spent one day working in the Waters Edge clubhouse and were the only ones in it. We set up our computers at one of their tables (as we both work remotely) and worked while we did laundry. They even have complimentary snacks in this clubhouse. Though we have a Starlink (satellite internet), I used the resorts wi-fi in the clubhouse because it was great. Not many RV parks have good internet, but this one did great the entire time we were there.

There is a small game room with several tables in the Waters Edge clubhouse that would also make for a quiet “work-at-home” environment if you need it. With many people working remotely now days, I would like to see a dedicated room for this, but maybe that is an idea for the future.

Endless Entertainment Options

At Hilton Head National RV Resort, the fun never stops. Upon arrival, you are given a list of events that they host on-site. Their events ranged from live entertainment, social events (like outdoor games), and community gatherings which are tailored to create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for all guests of all ages.

No event was ever too loud, as they were during the day and evening and the resort has a 10:00 pm “quiet time curfew” in place that everyone followed. We did walk our dogs at night sometimes (when the gotta go, they gotta go), and there are plenty of “street” lights and dog waste stations that are very helpful to pet owners.

My husband and I rollerblading in Hilton Head National RV Resort

We drove to Savannah Georgia while we were there which was about a 45-minute drive away, so it was worth checking out. We also shopped at the outlets which are minutes away from the resort. We were very impressed that there was a Whole Foods, a Kroger, a Walmart, a Target and plenty of other shopping venues so close. I love to cook, so being able to access some of my organic cooking and baking staples was very helpful.

Will We Live In South Carolina Next?

While we loved certain aspects of Hilton Head/ Bluffton South Carolina, it still is VERY coastal, which we want to try to stay away from in our next home. If we were looking at a coastal area again, however, the area would definitely be in our top 5 of best coastal areas to live in. This RV resort and surrounding area spoiled us as far as luxury RV resorts go. With everything there is to do, plus the cleanliness of the area and your ability to drive to lots of other fun locations close by, it will remain in our future vacation destination idea bank.

If you are dreaming of an RV vacation that offers the perfect blend of opulence, adventure, and breathtaking natural beauty, look no further than Hilton Head National RV Resort. It truly is the ultimate destination for luxury RV camping! We would go back again and again to this resort and now every RV park has a lot to live up in comparison to this one. If I owned an RV park, this is definitely how I would set it up and I think many other parks need to take note of this one. I truly think it’s the future of RV resorts.
