As my husband and I settle into our new home, we are currently tackling the design of the most important room: THE MASTER BEDROOM!
After designing numerous master bedrooms in the homes we’ve owned over the years, one thing I’ve learned for sure:
Your master bedroom should be a private retreat for you and your partner.
While many house owners overlook this space's importance, it is actually a vital area that needs attention and a thoughtful design. Indeed, your night's sleep will influence your daily life in many different ways.
It can impact your productivity, morale, energy, happiness level, and mood. All of which are crucial to be successful in all aspects of life! When designing your master bedroom, don't forget that you are bound to spend over a third of your day in it, and turning it into a comfortable, healthy, and safe place is paramount.
Start with the tips below.
1- Invest in New Linen

Your linens can have a great impact on your night's sleep. While we often try to find cheap alternatives, luxury linens can truly make your bed stand out and bring the whole room to a new level. High-quality linen and bedding are also crucial to look after your skin, hair, and body in the best way.
Don't forget that your body will be in contact with them for up to 8 hours a day! Make sure you find sturdy but soft linens that can stand the test of time! In terms of color, opt for plain, soft, or subtle color. This can give the room an elegant outlook that you would not obtain with other types of bedding.
2- Swap Your Wardrobe

Swapping your wardrobe for a new one can represent a significant investment. However, it can be one of the main aspects that can significantly increase the room's overall value - something to consider if you are planning to sell your home soon! For example, creating a built-in wardrobe is an excellent way to save and create space, make the room much brighter, and keep it free of clutter at all times. Undoubtedly, this will require you to go through a minor renovation, but it can significantly change the room's outlook!
3- Let the Light In!

One of the aspects that can make a difference in any room is the lighting. Whether your bedroom only has a small window or a terrace - you can always do something with it. First of all, replace your heavy drapes. They can make the room cozier over winter, but they can also make the room feel and look much smaller and cluttered.
Instead, think about swapping them for custom-made blinds or lighter curtains. These will still block the light out in the morning, but they can help you enjoy the sunshine and fresh air every time you need them! Additionally, placing a mirror or other reflecting surface in front of the window can make any small bedroom look much more spacious and sun-filled.

4- Bring Nature Indoors

Bringing natural elements and details in your bedroom can help you feel more connected with nature. In turn, this can relieve stress and create a much healthier environment in which to spend such a significant portion of your time. To bring nature indoors, you won't need to do much aside from swapping single-use items for durable, natural details.
Additionally, instead of buying decorative items, make sure you decorate with plants and greenery. Aside from being visually beautiful, they can also bring you many benefits, including purifying the air and creating a healthier atmosphere.
5- Use Rugs and Carpets

Adding rugs and carpets might not be the idea of the perfect design for every couple. However, sometimes it is also about comfort. And, there is nothing worse than placing your feet on an ice-cold floor during a winter morning! Stylish rugs and carpets can help you stylishly fill the floor, they won't be too overwhelming, and they can make the room much more comfortable all year round!
6- Keep Clutter to a Minimum

Clutter is the enemy of every room, especially your bedroom. It can cause you to experience trouble falling asleep and can make the whole room much less livable. An easy solution to reduce clutter is to introduce clever storage spaces. Elegant and stylish cupboards can help you create a clean, more spacious room.
7- Add Extra Comforts

Of course, the design of your room counts. However, adding some extra touches is just as important! While it is not recommendable to have a TV in your room, you should think about what makes your evenings extra special. Is it spending time with your favorite book's characters? Or do you prefer to treat yourself to a pampering face mask? Ensure you have everything you need at nighttime within reach!
