The Cutest Custom Cake Toppers for Birthdays and Beyond

When it comes to birthday, wedding, graduation cakes, baby shower cakes and more, it’s always fun to create or have a custom cake topper made. It takes a cake one step further and makes the person fully know that the cake is there to celebrate them. We don’t all get personally celebrated very often after we turn 21, so personalizing a cake can be very meaningful. Read on to see some of our favorite custom cake toppers.

When I was very young, I requested specific cakes for my birthday. One year, during a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party (one of my favorite places as a kid) it was my request to have a chocolate cake with a ballerina and ballerina shoes on top and purple candy roses.

I could be quite particular (and still am today) and that was some early signs of my creative brain putting together a cake design. I went on to start Carolyn’s Blooming Creations, this website, which began as my cake design portfolio. I made lots of fancy cakes over the years for family, friends and clients.

Back then I liked to turn simple things, perhaps ordinary things, into extraordinary things, and still do today. Maybe that’s why I named my first YouTube crafter series “Carolyn Braden’s Turning the Ordinary into the Extraordinary”.

While my mom didn’t order my cake topper request from one specific place that year, she did have to find the ballerina (it was the 1980’s and Amazon.com and TEMU didn’t exist) at one store and the specific purple candy roses somewhere else. I call that a very custom cake topper. It was exactly what I wanted and my mom created my own unique custom cake topper just for me.

Mini Letterboard Cake Topper: Buy here at Walmart

If you don’t have the time to have a custom cake topper made, stop by your local Walmart and in their party section, you’ll see a mini letterboard cake topper called the Packed Party “Spell It Out”.

You can use the included letters to customize this letterboard cake topper or use your own

At $6.12, you can buy lots of these cute cake toppers so you always have one handy to personalize for someone special. You can use the letters that come with it OR regular sized letters (like some we had on hand from other letterboards) work on it too like we did for our cactus below.

It’s a cake topper we have bought several times. We have one for cakes and one for our fun indoor cactus plant we call “Clarence”. I also used it to create an example photo for my origami money plant project. Get that project here. The letterboard and planter would make cute gifts too!

While I couldn’t find a custom mini balloon cake topper seller online (I know I saw one at some point, but I remember reading reviews and they weren’t great due to the letters not inflating, so I suppose it was discontinued), I did find something similar.

  • This gold cake topper set has the letters for “happy birthday” in candle form and comes with mini balloon and more for $10.99 on Amazon.com. The candles look similar to mylar balloons.   • I did, however, find a company that makes full sized mylar letter balloons for $0.99 each on Amazon.com. You could customize an entire balloon banner to go with your fun mini balloon cake topper.
