I Upgraded to a TrueBrew De’Longhi Coffee Maker and Here’s Why

Well, it’s official. I am now the owner of a $700 coffee maker. Well, it does go on sale, so it’s not always that much... :)

When the opportunity presented itself for me to test a De’Longhi TrueBrew Drip Coffee Maker, I hopped right on that train. I really wondered if a $700 coffee maker was worth it. Does it really make a better cup of coffee than my $45-dollar coffee maker? Well, I learned a lot through testing and I already know I don’t want to return to regular coffee making any time soon.

Buy This De’Longhi Coffee Maker

You can get this coffee maker via Amazon or via Target.

You can purchase many types of beverage machines from the De’Longi brand by clicking our link to their site too. I’ve known others to have their coffee makers and LOVE them! While this one cost a retail price of $700, there are more affordable ones like this De’Longhi Espresso Machine for $129 on Amazon.

Other coffee makers/grinders we like:

  • Mr. Coffee 5-Cup Mini Brew (used it in our motor home and it made a good cup of coffee, Amazon, $35)

  • Mr. Coffee 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker (Walmart $23.97)

  • Black + Decker One Touch Coffee Grinder, Amazon $20

  • Secura French Press Coffee Maker, Amazon $27

I love how you can make different sizes of coffee

Review Summary

Well…this is the best coffee maker we’ve ever used. While I don’t adore the sound of the grinder however (read about that below), it does provide you with super fresh coffee and it’s so quick and easy! It’s worth a splurge if you like EASY and NO WASTE and FRESH DAILY COFFEE as many times a day as you’d like.

I believe the zero measuring and NO WASTEFUL PODS is also the future of easy coffee making. Here’s more if you need an expansion of my thoughts, including the few downsides to the TrueBrew machine.

Pros

--No Messy Measuring of Grinds

I never seemed to get the amount of grinds right in my regular coffee maker and this machine takes that guesswork away. Simply pour your favorite whole bean coffee into the top section of the coffee maker and you are set for a while, depending on how many cups you make. The machine has a sensor that lights up when you need to add more.

Yes, you can add ground coffee to this machine, however, we have not tested this part yet as that was the whole part of why I like it; you don’t have to measure anything out! We currently love Allegro Breakfast Blend (Whole Bean) and Trader Joe’s Breakfast Blen (Whole Bean and Grounds).

--No Waste

The machine is minimal waste, except the dry grounds, but you can remove those out easily and then can use them in your garden. The Spruce can tell you why coffee grounds can be good in your garden. The machine puts them in waste bin and they are shaped like little circles of compacted coffee. The machine has a sensor that tells you when the bin of grounds is full and when the water waste is full.

--Hot or Cold, Tall or Short?

You can make coffee light, gold, bold, over ice, 3 oz., 8 oz., 12 oz., 16 oz., 24 oz., or make the 40 oz. carafe, which comes with the machine. Our favorite setting for a cup of morning coffee is 12 oz., light, then we add some almond milk and some coconut sugar.

The Taste

The coffee from this machine always tastes fresh and delicious. It’s never been watery or “off”. One day, it stopped brewing because it ran out of water, we put more water in the container and it picked right back up to grinding and brewing.

 Cons

--The Grinding Noise

The grinder is noisy as it grinds while your coffee is being made. It’s also noisy when it’s shutting down. It doesn’t bother us, but it does bother our dogs. They don’t like loud noises of any kind though.

Setup

My husband did have a bit of trouble setting up the De’Longhi TrueBrew Drip Coffee Maker. He couldn’t get a part locked into place, but after a while, he got it. It may have been user error, or perhaps our machine (it was sent to us for testing) had a bit of a flaw. After a few minutes and doing a couple of YouTube searches, he didn’t find any solutions, so he started messing with the grinds container and got it locked in. We thought that was good to note if this happens to you.

After using the instructions to get it all set up, we added the whole coffee beans and the water and started testing. We tested whole beans by pouring them into the top, making the adjustments on the machine for what we wanted, pressed the button and we had a perfect cup of coffee in seconds.

My husband likes taking thing apart and if you do too, watch him take our old Keurig apart to figure out why it stopped working in our popular YouTube video below or via our channel @carolynjbraden:

--The Cost: $700 machine vs. $45 machine

Honestly, this pricier coffee maker does make a better cup of coffee as it grinds your beans freshly for every cup. I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I do know what good, fresh coffee is, and this is it. The price point is a bit of a con though, because while the engineering team did a great job designing this no waste drip coffee maker, I do believe it’s quite expensive. However, if you like ease and convenience and good coffee, it may be worth the investment to you.
