My Favorite $20 Flat Iron: Conair Infinity Pro

When my approximately $500 flat iron’s rechargeable battery stopped charging well, it left me with only 2 minutes to straighten my hair before having to recharge it. I love my Dyson hair tools, but after a conversation with the Dyson customer support team on the phone, I realized their cordless straightener will eventually have to get scrapped.

They said they’d give me a discount on a new one, but I don’t want to go through this again! The battery is not replaceable, which makes it a VERY expensive lesson for me. My husband loves hacking beauty products that stop charging (like how he fixed my mom’s dead Clarisonic), so maybe he’ll work on that at some point.

The Conair Infiniti Pro

In the meantime, I had to find something else that worked well and was lighter in weight. That Dyson straighter seemed to be very heavy and bulky. Even their new similar version (it has a cord and is called the Dyson Airstrait) looks bulky and heavy. Lots of people had many issues with the cordless one dying and felt the same about the size and weight, so I understand this other version being corded!

It really helps get my hair super straight

Despite their new version being corded, I decided $500 was too much right now. Maybe I’ll try it another time, as I really, really love my Dyson Airwrap. I am only sticking to corded beauty tools from now on. I decided to only look for other brands of corded flat irons next and came across the one inch Conair INFINITYPRO Rose Gold Flat Iron. It was only $20, and all my other Conair tools have performed well, and it had good reviews, so I ordered it and tested it right away.

My current favorite inexpensive flat iron

I was gifted some Smooth Moisture products from Influenster and fell in love with their Thermal Hair Strengthener and it’s been in my hair straightening rotation for a while now. I washed and dried my hair with my regular Pureology shampoo and conditioner and then blow dried it and went to bed. I awoke, per the usual, with wavy hair. No matter where I live (currently Florida, and it happened when I lived in Kentucky too), this happens. I love my wavy hair, but sometimes I like it straight.

My crazy wavy morning hair pre-straightening

I applied the Thermal Hair Strengthener to my somewhat coarse, thick and aging hair (only a tiny bit as a little goes a very long way) and ran the Conair flat iron through my hair. I love that it only takes 15 seconds to heat up! It has ceramic plates that literally glide through your hair. I have not had it pull any hair while using it, as some of my other flat irons have. I had mine on a level 24 (it’s very simple as it has an on/off button and a dial to turn the heat up or down) and in a couple of passes, my crazy wavy bed head was getting straighter fast.

Straight hair using Conair InfinitiPro and Smooth Moisture

This flat iron heats up to 455 degrees, so it’s adjustable for many hair types. If you don’t need a high heat to get straight hair, then you should adjust the temperature down, as using really high heat all the time can damage your hair. Your hair health will determine how much you can straighten it. If you eat healthy, drink lots of water and are in overall good health, you can have really healthy hair. Hormones, illnesses and genetics can affect your hair negatively though, no matter how healthy you try to be.

I really like this tool!

Taking a break from heat styling sometimes is always a good idea. See my video below on one way I style my hair on my no-heat styling days.

Side note about my break from heat tools: After I got COVID in 2024, I had some hair loss and laid off the heat hair tools for a while. I quickly started regrowing it using Marc Anthony’s $7 Grow Long Hair Mask and it really works! Giving your hair a break after an illness or seeing lots of damage is a good idea. Upon some advice of my mature neighbor, I also starting putting some collagen powder in my coffee every morning.

I tried a variety from Ancient Nutrition and love it. I do not believe it directly helps my hair alone, but collagen is something that we lose as we age (according to this article from the Cleveland Clinic), so it’s not a bad supplement to test out for yourself. I think it helps my skin glow, but maybe that’s just me.

I sing this flat iron’s praises!

As with all my product reviews, I encourage you to try out new products and see what works for you. I really do love the Conair INFINITYPRO flat iron and I really love the price. After straightening my hair, I use the Smooth Moisture Radiant Spray to seal my hair. I spray a bit into my hands and run it down my hair for shine and frizz protection. The Conair flat iron is lightweight, plugs in (no batteries to die!) and is overall a great tool to have around.
