“Animals are the ultimate teachers of unconditional love.” —Carolyn J. Braden
My husband and I drove to Ohio today to do an IKEA run today. The product we needed for our laundry room renovation was not available to be shipped, so we drove the 2 hours from Louisville, KY to go pick it up.
We decided to take Minnie Pearl with us, even though she’s been a “wild child” kind of a puppy lately. She’ll be six months old next week, so maybe she’ll settle down soon?????? Probably not, but wishful thinking is never a bad thing!
We were pleasantly pleased that she did an amazing job. After we picked up the IKEA products, we took her to a local park and she had the best time!
When we got home from our short little trip, Minnie Pearl fell sound asleep. I think changing up her routine was good for her and good for us too.
We’ve been so busy with finishing up the renovations of our 1800’s home (and with Minnie Pearl) so we gladly welcomed a morning of our monthly massages and peels (with Balance IWC’s Monica Caporale and Holly Hoskins) as well as a day away from our house. We’re almost done with it and know it’ll all be worth all the hard work in the end, but we also know taking a day off when you really need it is never a bad idea.
Here’s to anyone reading this: Maybe it’s time for you to take a day off to change up your scenery, spend time with friends, family, pets, loved ones or anyone that makes you feel great. I hope you have a chance to do it sometime soon….it’s worth it!
Traveling with a pet? Here’s what we do on short trips: We always pack towels (Minnie Pearl and our Maine Coon Monica both get car sick sometimes), paper towels, toys, food and water (plus pop up travel bowls) to ensure they stay calm and hydrated. On this trip, Minnie Pearl did well, but only became a little scared after a semi truck got very close to the car and when we went over a bridge (she kept ducking as if the bridge was going to come down and hit her). Her fears were no problem for her current favorite stuffed toy who we call “Larry the Lemur”. She cuddled up next to him and fell asleep on the way home.
On a side note: I ADORE the IKEA “pick up in store” program. I placed the order for what we needed and paid for it online. Then the store put together the order and had it ready for us as soon as we got there. (You can pick your time frame pick up). They even have special parking for this option. There are some days you don’t feel like trekking through such a big store and we definitely couldn’t go shopping through IKEA with Minnie Pearl in tow.
