Our back porch was in a need a makeover that was quick and budget-friendly. A little style can go a long way!
Here’s what I did:
Painted our current swing and matching table with white Rustoleum after cleaning and scrubbing them with a wire brush to remove as much as the existing paint as possible. The swing was left at the home when we bought it and we found the table in my in-law’s basement.
Purchased chairs and a loveseat from Target (being the end of the season, the chairs were on sale for $7.50 each and the loveseat was $17.50….and all are VERY sturdy and well-made!)
Purchased 3 plant hanging chains from Home Depot (about $2.00 each)
Purchased 2 hanging flower baskets from Home Depot (they were on sale, 2 for $10) and hung them each from a plant hanging chain
Purchased a hummingbird feeder via Amazon.com ($6) and made my own sugar water for it using spring water and organic sugar cane (see the EASY and HEALTHY recipe I used from the Smithsonian National Zoo here!). I hung this between the flower baskets on the 3rd plant hanging chain.
Set out the orchid I received as a gift from my cousin
The only other thing that I would consider doing is adding an outdoor rug. I decided not to do this at this time, but it would make it look even more fabulous!

With the help of my husband’s father, we have completed all the renovations of our 1800’s home ON OUR OWN.
AND FYI—none of us are contractors nor have backgrounds in this kind of work. We’ve just researched and learn as we go! You can learn a lot from YouTube too!
