After renovating the foyer (and the wood surrounding it), we realized the foyer stairs didn't look so great.
They were covered with carpet when we first purchased the house. After pulling up the carpet, we saw these poor stairs had paint drips all over them, had carpet glue stuck on them and were honestly Dullsville, USA. So, we decided to spruce them up using a quick and easy tool: Shellac!
How we made them look super great once again:
I (very carefully) scraped off the paint drips and carpet glue with some small scrapers first. Then, I vacuumed them and used a damp paper towel to wipe them clean. Next, I used a Wood Finish Stain Marker from Minwax in Dark Walnut to cover any visible scratches in the wood. Then I "painted" on two coats of Zinsser Bulls Eye SealCoat Shellac, allowing 24 hours (dry time) in between coats.
