Today I am excited to share my easy beach and poolside OR hot weather makeup! It is the beauty routine I use to keep my skin protected from the sun and stay looking cute even on the hottest days.
Yes, I wear makeup to the pool or beach...I love makeup, what can I say? While living in my new home environment of Sanibel Island Florida though, I’ve learned how to apply makeup to make it last. My secret? I just skip using a few products like foundation, eyeliner and eye shadow when I know I’m going to be out in the heat all day.
I did not do a very good job of protecting my skin from the sun when I was younger so I try very hard now to take better care of it. I am a natural redhead and my skin burns easily. I was forced to wear t-shirts on the beach as a kid because my skin burned so easily. Luckily there are better sunscreens on the market now than there were then.
I now do a much better job in protecting my skin from the sun and thought I should share what I used with others.
This is not a sponsored or paid post.
I just wanted to share my love of beauty and skincare with anyone interested.
In the video below, I show you my full makeup routine for hot, vacation-style weather as well as give you lots of tips and tricks.
If you don’t have time to watch the video, keep reading below for a list of the products I like to use and the items I keep in my beach bag.
Here is a list of most of the products I used in my video AND links to buy them on Amazon OR to find out more information. Keep reading below the list to learn a little more about some of the products and some awesome tips and tricks!
While all of the products may not work for everyone, some of the products may work for you. Try them out and see what you think. Always remember though, TEST OUT ALL PRODUCTS ON A SMALL SKIN AREA 24 hours before applying them all over. Do this especially if you are prone to have reactive skin OR have sensitive skin.
I usually take a cooler with me when I go to the beach, so I keep my sunscreen and the makeup products I bring with me in the cooler. It not only prevents makeup from melting, but it also is nice to put on cool sunscreen on a hot day! I only keep my bottled, non-aerosol products in the cooler. If it’s in an aerosol spray, it’s best to keep it at the temperature recommended on the bottle.
Don’t skip putting sunscreen on your lips! Yes, your lips need protection, so I like to use a lip product that contains sunscreen whenever I’m spending time in the sun.
The Solar Recover spray is amazing for using after getting out of a pool or the ocean. Ocean and pool water can be drying and the Solar Recover sprays are great for adding moisture back into your skin. They are lightweight, cruelty-free and smell amazing. The skin moisturizer spray can also be helpful if you accidentally get too much sun.
Can’t make it to the beach? This spray (below) by Sol Janeiro reminds me of vacation weather and can be used year round to bring back vacation memories! I ordered mine from Sephora.
Scent memory is strong and there are lots of ways you can bring back sweet memories with scents. I wrote about how you can make your house smell beachy and how you can create lasting scent memories. Click here to read the post!
Supergoop is a great everyday sunscreen brand. I love their Unseen Sunscreen as a makeup primer because it layers very well under makeup. It also doesn’t smell too sunscreen-y and doesn’t leave white residue on my skin.
The Supergoop Everyday Lotion is a great choice for a daily body lotion with sunscreen. It doesn’t leave any white stains in my clothes, is light weight and doesn’t smell too strong. I use this daily BUT if I’m going to be out in the sun (at the pool or beach) all day, I use a heavier sunscreen like one from the Sun Bum brand.
If you have tried any of these products, let me know! Leave a comment below. I love to hear if something works (or even if it doesn’t work) for you.
