The Creative Inspiration
I found an old flat gold claw clip in one of my hair accessory drawers. I bought it at H&M many, many years ago and it was starting to show some wear and tear with some spots forming on the metal. I am a full believer in making things last and I knew I could get some more use out of the clip by adding some rhinestones, because I love sparkles!

Giving the Claw Clip a New Life
For this hairstyle, I used my knowledge of blinging up many things over the years to recycle this old claw clip into something fabulous. I added some Liquid Fusion glue to the top of the barrette, then used a wax tip pencil and rhinestones from this kit.

Easy but Chic Hairstyles
I love styling my hair and always have. It was my go-to hobby when I was old enough to start playing with my hair. I especially love easy hairstyles that don’t hurt my head. Here are a mere few of my favorite DIY hairstyles I’ve created:
I love my Wavytalk Thermal Brush because it’s so easy to use and creates consistent GREAT hairstyles. See my full tutorial here and see me use it in my 1-minute video tutorial below via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:

The Easy Half Up Hair Tutorial
After I let my clip dry overnight, I washed my hair (I wash it at night) using Viori shampoo and conditioner bars. Use my link here or use my code CAROLYNBRADEN for 10% off. I dried it at night, slept in my usual hair bonnet and then in the morning, I sprayed on my favorite heat protectant and used my 1 inch Beachwaver rotating curling iron to curl all my hair.
I’ve loved my Beachwaver for several years now
When all the curls were cool, I used my Mermaid Life seashell wide tooth comb (I blinged it up and the tutorial can be found here) to loosen the curls.

Since my roots were showing some growth (and some white hairs!), I used Boldify hair powder in Auburn to conceal this. I love this powder and just use the included puff to apply it to my roots, then I’ll spray some hairspray on usually to lock it in place.

Next, I added some Powder Play to my roots to add some lift and volume. A little goes a long way and it lasts literally for DAYS!

I then used a teasing brush to tease the roots a bit, pulled the sides back (my hair has a center part and I kept that visible) and secured them at the back of my head with the flat claw clip.

I pulled out some of the front section of my layers to frame my face AND I pulled some of the secured hair up and out of the barrette a bit to give it a little more lift and volume.
The rhinestones gave a fancy edge to the clip
I sometimes spray some hairspray or use some Pureology Glow Catcher Hair Oil (a new favorite of mine) to lock in my curls as it’s very hydrating, which is key to keeping curls.
