Why You Need to Try a Steam Hair Straightener Brush
I’ve tested two hair straightener brushes to try to get my thick long hair straight fast. One with a steam setting and one without. While both worked quickly to straighten my hair, one definitely worked better and gave my hair some moisture and shine. Read on to learn about my new favorite hair straightener brush and how to use it.
Results with the steam hair straightener brush
The first straightener brush I tested was in 2022. We were on our Hurricane Ian evacuation 1,000 miles away from our Sanibel Island home at my in-law’s house. Due to the Sanibel Causeway being destroyed (the only bridge to the island), we had to extend our stay in Indiana for a while. I did not evacuate with many hair tools, as there were plenty of other important things to grab on our way out of the house.
One side is before, the other is after using the steam brush
While I totally understand that many people would be very upset when away from their home, not knowing what damage had exactly occurred to their property, I quickly found out our house was at least still standing, so I put my worries into creating.
Sometimes easing your mind through creating, spending time in nature, cooking and being with friends and family is good for your soul when dealing with harsh life events. Thankfully, God was good to us and our house needed some repairs, but not as much as some.
Steam hair brush vs. non steam hair brush
Non-Steam Straightener Brush Results + Discount
I wanted my hair straight and since I first saw a Florida woman on a tv show use a straightener brush on her frizzy hair (Florida humidity is a beast!) that made it sleek and smooth fast, I decided to buy one. I grabbed a basic off-brand hair straightener brush (get a similar one from Amazon here or Walmart here) for around $25, had it sent to my temporary address at my in-laws and put it to the test.
I’ve seen similar straightener brushes on Temu too, and while I haven’t tested their hair straightening brushes, I have tested numerous other hair tools from their sellers and they have done well (and are well priced!). If you shop Temu, use my code afe55197 or my link here for 30% off. Here’s a link to a hair straightener brush on Temu for $11!
My non-steam hair straightening brushes heat elements between the brush bristles heated quickly and worked well to straighten my hair. For the price, it does a good job to straighten my 2B (slightly wavy/a bit thick) hair type. My only complaint is that it dried my hair out if I used it too often, meaning it was probably causing some heat damage. So, I would recommend it for the price and if you didn’t plan on using it every day, but read below to see what I think of a steam hair straightener brush version.

After working with WavyTalk on a skinny curling rod video (see that article about it here), I asked them to send me their Pro Steam Hair Straightener brush (get it on Amazon here). Their curling rod worked very well and made my hair curly for days, so I figured their steam hair straightener brush may be great too.
The tiny bottle makes filling the water tank so easy
It comes with a glove, a satin scrunchie, duck bill hair clips, a cleaning brush and a tiny bottle for filling up the water tank. It kind of works like a clothing steamer. I read the directions and first filled up the tank using the squeeze bottle.
See my 1-minute tutorial for this steam brush below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
Then I plugged it in, turned it on with the power button, set the temperature to 380 (it has four settings, and this mid-high setting was best for my hair type) and allowed it a few minutes to heat up. It made a bit of noise as the steam started building up, which is normal.
You do not have to use a steam setting on the Wavytalk brush
I used the heat resistant glove to brush it’s rounded smooth “bristles” through my hair and no joke, in one pass, it made my hair super sleek, shiny and straight. It didn’t get caught in my hair and straightened my full head within 5 minutes. My hair was clean and dry when I started, but slept on, so it was slightly wavy and full before straightening. If you have thicker or more textured hair, it may take your hair a bit longer to get fully straight.
The water tank is good for at least 10 minutes
Overall, I do believe the steam straightener brush is better for my hair and after using it for several days in a row, I noticed there was less heat damage vs. my non-steam brush. You can turn OFF the steam setting on the steam hair brush, which I like if I don’t want the steam. The directions said the water in the tank will last for 10 minutes, but I noticed it lasting a bit longer for me.
Wavytalk does have a non-steam version that is a bit cheaper (the steam version currently runs around $79 and the non-steam is around $45) if you’d like to try that. Get it here on Amazon or here at Walmart.
I love the steam straightener brush!
I have bleached and colored hair, so adding a bit of moisture back into my hair while styling is never a bad thing. I smoothed my favorite Moroccanoil Treatment into it (I’ve used it since 2008…it’s good stuff!) after straightening and it stayed straight all day, even with a bit of fall Southwest Florida humidity.
