Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself

In this busy world, it is very easy to neglect ourselves. When you work, take care of a family, and run a household, your health can fall by the wayside as you struggle to stay afloat. All of this can be even more of a struggle if you encounter an unexpected difficult event.

If this sounds like your life, then it is time you took a step back and reassess your situation. We all need a bit of time to ourselves to reenergize and being to feel a lot better. It may sound as if it's far easier said than done, but once you start finding the time to focus on yourself, the easier it will become. Read on to learn a few self care tips.

1- Say No

You can even say no to big events like a New Year’s Eve Party

One of our fatal flaws may be the inability to say no. Not being able to say no to an invite or to help out someone in some way is not in your best interest. If you are already struggling to keep up with everything, the last thing you need is extra work. So, learn to say no.

The next time someone asks you to go somewhere and your instinct says not to do it, apologize and decline. You will be completely amazed at how much better you'll feel afterward. Saying no is one of the first steps to take when it comes to looking after yourself better.

2- Meditate

Stacking stones is a great form of meditative action

Now you can meditate in a number of different ways. For some people, it is the traditional route. Folding their legs, closing their eyes, and chanting “om”. But for others, meditation takes on another form. Taking on an artistic pursuit of some kind is akin to meditation. When you are in the flow of that drawing, you are in a kind of meditative state.

Perhaps a daily chore can be more like meditation too. What about the ironing or washing up? Instead of seeing it as a chore, why not use the time to clear your mind and allows all the stresses and strains of everyday life to dissolve? You may even begin to like these tasks for the peace it offers while you do them. Remember taking care of yourself is as much to do with your mental state as what you are doing.

3- Eat Well

A homemade fresh fruit smoothie is a healthy snack option

Eating well is one of the best ways to take care of yourself. Increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat and reduce all the rubbish. Fast food should be a treat every now and again, not a daily go-to. Why not look in some recipe books and fall in love with cooking? Cooking can be a way to express yourself creatively. It doesn't always have to be simply functional. Think about better places to buy fresh ingredients, too, like Sanctum Tree Family Farm. You never know what you can discover until you look into it.

4- Treat Yourself

Try a spa day with a friend for some relaxation fun

Don't go for a long time depriving yourself of things. You need to buy yourself a gift every now and again to show that you are worth it. Go to the hairdresser, buy those new clothes, have a spa day. A little gift and some relaxation can do a world of wonders.
