Is the Beauty Blender Bio Pure Sponge Worth It?

Is the Beauty Blender Bio Pure Sponge Worth It?

I’ve been a fan of Beauty Blenders for many years. I was skeptical when the tear drop shaped sponges were first launched because I had used the old school square makeup sponges in the past and they never seemed to get my makeup on evenly. I tried foundation brushes, but they also seemed to leave streaks on my skin as well as highlight every single flake of dry skin my face may have.

I finally bit the bullet one day and bought one. I followed the directions of wetting it first, then squeezing out all the excess water. I then applied some foundation to the sponge and dabbed away at my face. I then proceeded to be blown away.

The large round shape seemed to hug my cheeks and forehead, while the pointy end reached every nook and cranny of my nose, chin and eyes. I couldn’t believe how even and flawless my makeup looked. It’s plant based, but somehow those plants work really hard to make my skin look amazing.

After using it for a few months, I sold my Temptu airbrush machines and never looked back. After going through several sponges, however, I started to wonder about the impact they had on the environment. Then, Beauty Blender came out with the Bio Pure Makeup Sponge, a clean beauty option.

Beauty Blender Bio Pure Sponge

According to the Beauty Blender website, the Bio Pure Sponge : Bio Pure™ is composed with a breakthrough BioPlush™ foam, made from a 60% plant base of renewable sugarcane & an even more sustainable production process. The same bounce & ultra-plush softness as the original, it’s designed to be used wet for less product waste. The new canister is constructed with recycled resins. As always, made in the USA.

I read many reviews and learned that many consumers swore the new blender didn’t hold up as well as the original sponges. I was then gifted with a Bio Pure Sponge and was able to truly find out for myself if all the negative reviews were correct.

Clean Beauty Tips

I received the Bio Pure Makeup Sponge in the October 2021 giant Influenster Clean and Chic Vox Box with other clean beauty products. By the way, if you haven’t become a member of Influenster, you should! If you like to test products for free AND give your honest opinion, you’ll love it.

You don’t get paid, but some of the products I’ve received have been spectacular, including a Keurig coffee maker. Who doesn’t like free stuff?!

Testing Well People Superpowder

Besides the Bio Pure Sponge, I also received W3ll People Superpowder Brightening Powder. I love that it is vegan, cruelty free and actually does what it says. It isn’t shimmery; just slightly brightening. I like to use it around my eye area, forehead, and chin; anywhere I need a little brightening.

I felt it was slightly drying, so I use a separate setting powder (I like It Cosmetics Bye, Bye Pores), then lightly apply the W3ll People Superpowder on top of it. I do think it would work on many skin tones, even very dark tones.

Have combination skin like me? Here’s my clean beauty and cruelty free skincare routine on my YouTube channel “Carolyn Braden”:

Using Milk Makeup Bionic Blush On Lips

I also received Milk Makeup Bionic Blush and Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray. Milk is also a cruelty free brand. While I liked the look of the blush on my “no makeup days” (days when I don’t wear foundation), I found it to be a little to liquid-y to use on top of my foundation. I think it’s because I have combination skin and the watery texture is a bit too much, especially when my skin gets oily.

I did like using it as a lip tint though. It really lasts ALL DAY on my lips. It didn’t quite last all day on my cheeks though.

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Review

I wasn’t as impressed with the Milk Hydro Grip setting spray. I was excited to try it, as I always use a setting spray to make my makeup last. I really LOVE Urban Decay De-Slick setting spray as it doesn’t break me out and actually works. But, I was up to the task of trying something new.

The Hydro Grip did make my makeup last all day, but it made me break out. If you have combination skin that has a tendency to be a bit sensitive and breaks out easily, it may not be the product for you. If you have normal or dry skin, however, it may work great for you.

Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask

The giant tub of Eva NYC Therapy Mask conditioner was a pleasant surprise. It is another cruelty free brand that I’ve used in the past and liked. The conditioner was very hydrating and with it being super low cost (around $14 for 16.9 oz.), it’s a great buy.

I have wavy, thick hair that tends to get very flat if I use too-heavy products on it. This was not heavy and left my hair super shiny and hydrated after one use. It also has a pleasant smell similar to the Moroccanoil brand (which is another cruelty free brand).

Happy with cruelty free makeup

As I worked my way through testing out all the products for over a month, the Bio Pure Makeup sponge held up. I used my Beauty Blender cleanser to clean it every other day. To deep clean it, I soak it in a bowl of warm water with a little BB cleanser overnight. This cleaning process does a great job at removing most of the makeup stains.

Feathered Brow Look

In over a month of daily use, the sponge held up just as good as my original Beauty Blender sponges. I’m really not sure if all the negative reviews are just consumers that received a factory “dud” or if they simply are just too hard on all their makeup tools. You have to clean all your beauty tools gently and allow them to dry in order to make them last.

The Bio Pure Makeup sponges are better for the environment, which I am always trying to find new brands that are working towards more sustainable makeup products. I will continue to buy the Bio Pure sponge because of the great testing experience I had.

The new sponge is worth a switch from the original to me. I am also excited to know Beauty Blender has a recycling program for all your old BB sponges! I have held onto all my old blenders and will be shipping them to BB soon! They even take care of shipping cost. Click this link to learn more about their recycling program.
