I am often in need of some sort of vegan protein to add to my meals. Tempeh is that amazing addition, however, when purchased plain, it has very little flavor. My recipe helps add the EASIEST perfect punch of flavor to tempeh and enables you to add it to all sorts of meals like salads (like my Berry Happy Strawberry Salad), pastas, and potatoes!
What is tempeh?: Fermented soybeans packed into a cake form
Yield: 4 servings
Suggested cooking tools: Skillet, knife, measuring spoons, Ziplock bag (freezer size)
Ingredients:
One 8 ounce package plain, unseasoned tempeh (I used the Lightlife Foods brand in “Original” flavor)
2 teaspoons poultry seasoning (I used Frontier Co-Op Poultry Seasoning, though you could use a mixture of sage, thyme, and onion powder).
3 tablespoons liquid aminos (I used the Bragg brand, though you could use soy sauce if you don’t mind a higher sodium count)
1/2 tablespoon olive oil or a high heat oil of your choice
How-to:
Slice the tempeh into small thin strips or small cubes (See the photo below recipe for a visual reference)
Place the tempeh in a Ziplock bag (freezer size) and add the poultry seasoning and the liquid aminos. Close the bag. Gently shake the contents to combine and ingredients.
Spread the oil into a skillet or on a griddle. Heat to medium heat.
Place the seasoned tempeh into the skillet, fry 3-4 minutes or until it browns slightly. Flip and fry on the other slide for 3-4 minutes. (See a photo below the recipe for a visual reference)
Serve on top of quinoa, a salad, potato, pasta and more. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks:
Eat warm or cold!
Marinate the tempeh in the seasonings for a few hours or overnight for an every more powerful punch of flavor!
Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Eat on a salad like I did in my Berry Happy Strawberry Salad recipe!
