How to Create Tiny Spiral Curls with Wavytalk Curling Iron

If you truly know me, you will know how much I love experimenting with new hairstyles. I have a lot of hair tools, but when I saw the Wavytalk super skinny 3/8-inch curling wand, I knew I’d have fun with it. I’ve created many hair tutorials for creating curly hairstyles, and this wand provided me with the cutest tiny spiral curls I’ve ever had. Read on to learn how to create tiny spiral curls with a Wavytalk curling iron.

Before and after using my Wavytalk curling wand

While my heatless curling tutorials like my sponge roller tutorials do well on my social accounts, my heat curling methods are popular too. Sometimes my heatless methods for curling my hair don’t quite last as long as my heat curling methods, but I like to play to see what works best for my hair type on different days, which is 2B. Find your hair curl type on Allure’s website here.

Before using my Wavytalk curling wand

With having a type 2B hair curl type, my hair tends to hold curl fairly well, depending on it’s health and what the weather is like. If it’s really humid, usually my hair curl falls out a bit more than on drier days. On the day I first tested my Wavytalk curling wand ($25.99), it was during our 3rd evacuation from a hurricane. We have lived on Sanibel Island for 4 years and have evacuated 3 times. This time it was for Hurricane Helene.

Definitely use the glove for easy curling

I created the sponge roller tutorial during our first hurricane evacuation, which was for Hurricane Ian in 2022 while at my in-law’s house in Indiana. It was the longest evacuation and you can see why in my article here. We are planning to move because we are truly not having fun with the almost yearly evacuations since moving to Florida in 2020. But, I try to make the best out of it and wrote this article while evacuated.

My Wavytalk curling wand

While Hurricane Helene only arrived on Sanibel as a tropical storm, we worried about flooding and headed to Doral, Florida in the Miami area to wait it out. I washed and dried my hair the night before testing the wand. I turned it up to 420 degrees, the highest heat setting, because my hair is quite thick and even though Doral was far away from the hurricane, it was still windy and humid outside.

Curling my hair at our hotel evacuation

I wouldn’t recommend such a high heat setting for all hair types, but if your hair needs the heat to curl, turn it up. I used the included glove to wrap my hair in very small sections around the super skinny barrel from root to end.

My DIY spiral hair is fun!

I experimented and saw that if you wrap larger sections of hair around the barrel, you’ll end up with looser curls. If you use smaller strands, you’ll get tiny spirals.

This wand gave me tiny spiral curls

My hair curled very fast with this curling iron and heat setting. The glove definitely helps you not burn your fingers! After curling all my hair, I gently brushed it out with my Unbrush. I then applied some Morrocanoil Treatment (I have used this serum for many, many years and love it!) and some Dirt texturizing paste (which helped define the curls after brushing).

Final results with my Wavytalk curling wand

I sprayed some Kristen Ess finishing hairspray on my style and my hair looked fab! Even in humind, windy weather, my curls lasted all day. The wand is very lightweight and super easy to use. I would recommend the Wavytalk brand for sure and love my results!
