Not sure how to improve your health? It’s not as difficult as you may think. With an increasingly busy life, many of us struggle to find the time to look after our wellbeing, which can adversely affect our long-term health.
Reducing stress, eating nutritious foods, and leading an active lifestyle are all critical factors in improving your health. Here we’ll take a look at 5 easy ways to improve your health today – some will require more effort than others, but all are simple changes that will positively affect your wellbeing.
1- Walk More
Try joining a walking club
Walking is a great way to improve your health and can be done anywhere, anytime. Many health benefits are associated with walking, including lower blood pressure, reduced risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and improved mental health. Walking can also reduce the risk of certain cancers and help prevent osteoporosis in later life.
If you’re not sure where to start, many apps and online tools can provide you with information on walking and jogging times, distances and calories burned. Walking is also a great way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone, so don’t be put off because it’s a low-impact exercise.
2- Eat a Nutritious Diet
Meal planning and prep can help you eat healthier when you are busy
A nutritious diet can help prevent many illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Eating a balanced diet also ensures you get enough nutrients to help you stay at your optimal health and fitness levels. While there’s no “one size fits all” diet, there are some general rules to follow to ensure you get a healthy balance of nutrients from your food.
Eating lots of different fruits and vegetables, whole grains (ideally wholegrain bread and oats), legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas), fish, low-fat dairy, nuts, and seeds are a great place to start. People often think healthy eating has to be boring, but that’s far from the truth; there are many options to mix things up with delicious and nutritious meals and snacks.

3- Visit Your Doctor and Dentist
Healthy teeth and gums lead to overall good health
Your health and wellbeing extend beyond your physical health, so taking care of your mental health are essential too. Visiting your doctor regularly to discuss your health and any concerns you may have is the best way to ensure you get the proper treatment and support.
Your doctor should be able to provide you with information on local support groups and medical services that can help you manage any health issues or concerns you’re having. If you hurt your leg, you get it scanned for breaks. If you notice a rash, you go and get over-the-counter medicine for shingles. If you notice something physically wrong, you get help for it. You should treat your mental health the same way! Your brain is just like any other part of the body: and it needs help when it’s sick.
Similarly, regularly visiting your dentist is essential to maintaining good dental hygiene. Keeping regular hygiene appointments at Bella Vista Dental, brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes, and flossing once a day will help prevent gum disease and tooth decay.

4- Get Enough Sleep
Keeping a bedroom clutter free can help you sleep better
Sleep is essential for our health and wellbeing. Lack of sleep can significantly impact our day-to-day lives and has been linked to various health issues, from poor mental health to physical health, such as heart disease and diabetes. The recommended amount of sleep for adults is 7-8 hours per night.
Creating a regular sleep routine is essential to help your body understand when it should be winding down and preparing for sleep. This might include winding down with a warm bath or reading a book and setting your alarm a little earlier to account for the time it will take you to fall asleep.
5- Exercise
Exercising in older age is very important
Exercising regularly is a crucial way to improve your health and wellbeing. Exercising regularly will help you improve your cardiovascular fitness, reduce your risk of heart disease, lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk of diabetes, reduce stress, improve your sleep and boost your mental health.
You can do many types of exercise to get the most benefit; walking, swimming, running, and strength training are all great ways to increase your physical health and mental wellbeing.

Exercising can seem daunting if you’re not sure where to start or what type of exercise you’d like to try. Start by taking small steps like committing to walking for 15 minutes a day and gradually adding more time or trying a different type of exercise.
