The Best Way to Store Makeup Brushes
Up until seven weeks ago, when I was living in my home on Sanibel Island, I was storing my makeup brushes in a glass jar and a cute mug. Each was next to my vanity and was functional enough. While my makeup brush storage worked, it wasn’t very easy to find all my shorter brushes amongst my larger brushes. Even when I separated them by size, the smallest brush always found a way to stay hidden from me when I needed it the most.
When faced with an evacuation of my home due to Hurricane Ian, I had to find new ways to organize things due to a much smaller living situation with my in-law’s in Indiana for an undetermined amount of time. Sometimes you don’t know you need a new solution to an old way of doing something until it presents itself to you.

Silicone makeup brush organizer
Due to only evacuating with a few necessary items, I only had my mesh makeup bags to store my brushes. This solution worked, but when you are doing your makeup in a hurry, you need to find your tools and brushes fast. Bags have a way of making it hard to find needed tools too.
I first switched to a drinking glass and mug I found in my in-law’s basement, and it worked as well as it had in the past. Then we had to run into Walmart for something and I decided to peruse the makeup isles, my favorite section of any “big box” store.
This makeup brush organizer is cost effective
In the makeup section, by the organizing tools, I found a silicone and plastic organizer for around $5. Amazon has the exact same tool as well. I contemplated for a moment, and wondered if this flowery looking thing would really work. I bought it and quickly put it to the test.
See me put the makeup brush storage tool to work in the 30 second video below or on my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
The makeup brush storage tool worked great for small scissors, tweezers, and small handled brushes. I even stored my favorite KVD liquid liners in it, as they do best when stored capped with the brush facing downward. Even my brow liner did well stored in this. It has a variety of sized holes in the silicone that adapt well to many beauty tool shapes and sizes. It does not work for all your makeup tools though.
I found that all my small handled brushes that weren’t double-sided, were stored perfectly in the organizer. It’s a great makeup brush organizer for many items, but large brushes or double-sided brushes did not work with this tool. It also does not work with a traditional eyelash curler. I will continue to store my makeup brushes that are larger and larger tools in my glass jar and cup shaped containers.
I’ll eventually get back to my home on Sanibel Island, and the silicone makeup storage tool will be coming with me. Overall, I love the new storage solution, and I love coming up with new and better ways to organize things. It’s the “Monica” in me (as I love her character on the Friends show. I’d even consider getting more to store my paint brushes in my creative art studio.
