DIY Googly Eye Halloween Barrettes
Want a little Halloween fun without going full costume? Problem solved! 👀✨
Last Halloween, I made a fun googly-eye pipe cleaner tiara, but this year I wanted something a little more low-key. I came up with these easy DIY Halloween hair barrettes using googly eyes and rhinestones (things I already had in my craft closets, of course!) —and they take 20 minutes or less to make!
The best part? You can wear these spooky hair accessories with so many different hairstyles, and you can make them as subtle or as sparkly as you want.

How I Styled My Halloween Hair Barrettes
For my low-key Halloween look, I curled my hair and added the googly-eye and rhinestone barrettes over a netted headband.
The result is festive, sparkly and just a little spooky—without looking like I'm wearing a Halloween costume!

What You’ll Need

Googly eye kit (Walmart has a kit too here)
Small barrette hair clips with a cabochon setting
Popsicle stick (for holding barrettes while adding rhinestones)
Optional: Small flat-back pearls
Optional: Fazit Halloween makeup patches (Amazon) or get them at Walmart
Easy Halloween Hair DIY in 20 Minutes
How to Make DIY Halloween Hair Barrettes
1. Add the large googly eye.
Start by gluing one large googly eye onto the round cabochon setting on the top of the barrette. Let it sit securely before moving on. I clamped mine to a popsicle stick to balance it while creating.

2. Cover the barrette with smaller googly eyes.
Glue smaller googly eyes onto the rest of the barrette, covering the surface as much as possible. I used two different small sizes for this.
Problem Solution Girl tip: Don't cover the area around the clamp! Leave a small section open so you can easily open the barrette and slide it into and out of your hair.

3. Add some Halloween bling.
If you like a little sparkle like I do, add a small, thin layer of glue around the large googly eye.
Use your wax tip pencil to pick up and place small rhinestones around the eye.
I used a combination of silver, gold and brown rhinestones, alternating the colors for a subtle, mixed-metal look.
You could also use small flat-back pearls instead of rhinestones for a softer, more elegant Halloween hair accessory.

4. Let them dry.
Set your finished DIY Halloween barrettes aside and allow them to dry overnight before wearing them.
