When Lush discontinued Skinny Dip in the early 2000’s, I was very disappointed. I discovered the brand right before getting married in 2003, and it became a beautiful scent memory that linked me to my wedding day each time I smelled it. When it was gone, I held onto an old bottle that had a bit left in it so I could smell it whenever I was feeling nostalgic.

Lush brought it back in 2024, but it sold out very quickly, so I missed out. This caused me to do yet another online search for “Skinny Dip + Lush” (I’ve tried to find dupes for years and even tried to create my own version) and my results returned with Wicked Good Perfume’s version. Read on to learn my thought on this and other dupe fragrance brands.

Is Dupe Fragrance Illegal?
If you are concerned about brands copying high-end fragrances, rest assured it’s a legal practice. I had to speak with an IP (Intellectual Property) lawyer when talking about beach shades years ago (read about that here) and you cannot usually copyright a fragrance or a recipe. Hasbro was able to copyright their Play-Doh scent somehow, but it’s extremely difficult. Read more about IP law here.

Wicked Good had many options for getting dupe scents on their website. I ordered a roller ball dupe for Aveda’s Shampure and a Perfume Mist dupe for Lush’s Skinny Dip. They had the scents in perfume form, but I was curious about the other application versions.
The Shampure dupe smells amazing
The Lush Skinny Dip (it’s mostly a clove-based scent with other notes like cocoa butter) came in a decent sized spray bottle like a body spray would come in. It’s a lightweight multitasking mist that you can spray on your body, in your hair and into the air. It took me directly back to my wedding day and because I kept that old Lush bottle with a smidgen of Skinny Dip, I could smell both and they were extremely close in scent.
The Wicked Good Perfume Mist is multi purpose
The Aveda Shampure roller ball is compact and smells exactly like Shampure. I owned a Shampure oil and could smell the two and it is a great dupe. I love Wicked Good as they are clean, eco-friendly, vegan, organic, handmade and woman-owned. Their scent catalog is HUGE and I think anyone wanting discontinued scents by big brands OR original scents should try Wicked Good Perfume.

I wrote about ALT. Fragrance when researching dupes for Baccarat Rouge 540 and I found it in their Crystal No. 23 scent. You can read my full review here. ALT. Fragrance is a cruelty free brand that gave my husband a great dupe for the $300+ fragrance that we adored. I jokingly nicknamed it “rich man cologne” before knowing how costly it was. I guess that’s how my brain imagined an extremely wealthy man smelled like, lol!
ALT. Fragrance has many dupe scents that are amazing!
It doesn’t last as long as the real deal (it does not contain ambergris, which is an animal derived ingredient that makes perfumes last a long time), but it’s extremely value priced, so you can pump out several sprays during the day without braking the bank. I love that you can get samples of their fragrances in sets so you can try them before you commit to a full bottle. I also love that it’s a small company.
