How to Make a Hello Kitty Ornament

I love Hello Kitty and blinging things up and when I bought a huge bag of clear ornaments and some Hello Kitty heads, I got super inspired. You can swirl paint inside the ornaments, you can add tinsel inside them, you can add dried flowers inside them, and you can bling them up!

Due to traveling for another hurricane evacuation for Hurricane Milton, I knew adding some Hello Kitty heads and rhinestones to an ornament would be a perfect car craft to keep my brain calm during this crazy time. Read on to learn how to make DIY Hello Kitty ornaments.

Car Crafting

I wrote an article (see many of my car crafts with a supply list and my car crafting methods in this article here) in the summer of 2024 with all the easy car crafts I created while visiting a neighborhood we will move to.

I choose easy crafts that most anyone could do. For this project we had to travel to Miami to get out of Milton’s way. I always travel with a tray lined with drawer liner. I made a Hello Kitty claw clip in the car too and you can see it here.

Adding some bling to plain ornaments seemed like the perfect car craft idea. I grabbed some of my car crafting kit and set to work. I love crafting ornaments around the holidays and have created quite a few. I buy many of my craft supplies currently from Temu (see my discount link below) because they have some of the lowest prices. Their craft supply quality is great too.

Hello Kitty Ornament Instructions

For this project I first glued on some Hello Kitty heads using a small dot of the glue and my fingers.

Then I simply added more glue to the ornament and used my wax pencil (I had to use my fingers for some) to pick up the rhinestones (I used all iridescent rhinestones) and added them one at a time around the Hello Kitty heads until it was completely filled.

For all rhinestone projects, be sure to add a thin layer of glue and if any oozes out, you can use a cotton swab to wipe the excess away.

I worked around the top of the ornament first, and by the time I was ready for the bottom, the glue had cured enough for me to flip it over gently and work on the other side.

When I got home (Milton caused us some damage and flooded our pool again…which also happened during Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Helene, but overall, our pillar house that stands high off the ground has held up!), I heated up my glue gun, tied a bow with the Hello Kitty ribbon along with some pink and orange raffia ribbon and glued it to the top of the ornament.  I trimmed it with my scissors as needed and sealed the ends with a lighter

I tied on some Hello Kitty ribbon so it could be hung on a tree. I always give my crafts 24 hours to fully dry before using them fully.
