The Beauty Budget Inspiration
I keep seeing some of my favorite beauty products going up in price (some have gone up 20% in a year!) and well, it got me thinking. I wondered if I could start using some of my hair oils for heat protection, frizz protection and hydration, sort of like a “one-stop-shop”.
I put my hair to the test for a few weeks with some oils I already had (I have several oils I rotate through to prevent my hair from “building up tolerance”). I stopped using my heat protect sprays and my hydrating creams and the results were quite interesting and I don’t think I’ll ever use a separate heat protect spray again.

Best Overall Hair Oil: Pureology Glow Catcher
After trying a huge sample from Sephora, I knew Glow Catcher would be part of my lifetime beauty loves. I added some Pureology Glow Catcher oil to my hair prior to blow drying it, and I had the same results as I did when I used heat protect spray. My hair was smooth, had no further heat damage than usual and was hydrated. Funny how a hair oil can be a little like cooking oil….it helps a surface not get damaged.

I also used it to smooth my strands after curling with my Beachwaver Rotating curling wand and it kept my hair super hydrated and glossy all day. I also use it on second and third-day hair (as I only wash my hair every three days) and it always made it look shiny and hydrated like day one! This is a new oil (I got a big sample from Sephora…I love samples!) and I love it!

Best Frizz Fighting and Blow Dry Protect: Moroccanoil Treatment
I was introduced to Moroccanoil Treatment many, many years ago in a salon. A stylist was blow drying women’s extremely coarse hair into smooth and shiny locks and she told me it was the Moroccanoil. I bought it and fell in love. You can put it on wet or dry hair, it smells great, doesn’t weigh my hair down, and does a great job at fighting frizz too!
It also comes in a lighter version for those with fine hair. It’s a little pricy, but it is concentrated and lasts forever. You can get a free sample (always!) at Sephora and it comes in a travel size too.

Best Shine and Split End Treatment: Biosilk Silk Therapy
I started using Biosilk Silk Therapy in high school and it’s still a great oil! It smells good, lasts all day, gives you hair super glossy shine and like all my picks, is cruelty free beauty (meaning there is no animal testing involved with this brand!). You can use this on wet or dry hair and despite being created in 1986, it’s still a great and effective product!
My hair has never been in such great shape!
Best Lightweight Hair Oil to Shape Up Damaged Hair: Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
Olaplex Bonding Oil is lightweight and can be used on wet or dry hair, and it adds color vibrancy and lasts up to 72 hours. It also gives you tons of shine without weighing your hair down. I started using this many years ago when I had severely damaged hair.
I used it along with the Olaplex shampoos and conditioners to strengthen my hair bond (you could see “tears” in my strands from some bad bleach processing by someone) and it truly helped.
I now have an amazing salon team, so I don’t have damaged hair anymore, but if you run into a problem with over processed color or bleach, try Olaplex for a while to see if it can help you like it did me.
