Are you a new mom, dad, or puppy owner? Then this writing piece is for you!
My husband and I do a lot of “tagging”. I’m not meaning in the social media or texting sense; I mean in real life.
The one type of tagging we are doing right now is giving each other breaks when we need it the most. We have a new puppy, Minnie Pearl, who needs to be constantly watched. Even though I do not have children, I used to teach, nanny, and babysit, so I know children and new babies have to be watched constantly like Minnie Pearl. You never know what they will get into…..
This type of constant watching is tiresome. While we both love spending time with her together, we still need alone time to shower, work, and more. So, we developed a little system that is like a game of tag. It’s very simple. When he needs his alone time, I watch Minnie Pearl. Then, when it’s my turn, he watches her.
The key to making this work: We don’t make each other feel guilty for however long we take during our alone time or for what we do during our alone time. We know we are in this together and will help each other out however we need to.
If you don’t have a partner you can “tag” when you need a break with your children (or a new puppy), I hope you have at least one person in your life you could do this with. A best friend, a family member or even a nanny. We all need “breaks” every once in a while. You’ll know this when you start forgetting things more often, make mistakes more often, when you get sick more often, etc.
Think about your life situation and see if you need to tag someone. Even 15 minutes of alone time can be helpful!
