How to Make Green Eyeshadow Wearable + Hard Candy Cosmetics

Hard Candy Cosmetics, sold mostly at Walmart stores now, came out with a collaborative makeup line with the Girl Scouts and I scooped it right up. They had three palettes, all that coordinated with some of their most popular cookies, and since Thin Mint was always my favorite cookie, I bought the Mint Explorer Palette bundle. While green eyeshadow is usually something I stray from, it can be wearable when paired with the right neutrals. Here’s how to make green eyeshadow wearable.

The Girl Scout + Hard Candy Makeup Bundle

Facts about Hard Candy Cosmetics:

The Hard Candy makeup line came out in 1995 and their baby blue nail polish was in almost every beauty and fashion magazine at the time. I could not afford it then, but now that the company has made it available at Walmart (and its cruelty free!), it’s very affordable now. They still make polishes in all kinds of trendy colors and glitters. I remember watching the movie Clueless in high school and the Hard Candy makeup line definitely fit the fashion and beauty featured in the movie perfectly.

Facts about The Girl Scouts:

Local troops get to keep 100% of their net proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program and can spend it how they see fit for their local area. Even if you don’t eat cookies, consider donating to them the next time you see one of their cookie stands. I was a Girl Scout as a little girl and I do remember having fun with the friends I met in the troop on many camping trips and I learned a lot. Teaching leadership is something the Girl Scouts focus on and I think that is an extremely important skillset to learn at a young age.

The Hard Candy Lip Oil is very hydrating and smell like mint too!

How To Wear Green Eyeshadow:

The first thing I do with all my eyeshadows is start with putting some primer on my eyelids. No shadows ever stay put all day when I don’t use one, so I always do. Next, I start with brushing on a light neutral colored eyeshadow all over my eyelids to give them a “blank canvas”. I learned to do this when I took a painting class in college, and it works in beauty too. A neutral blank canvas helps even out your eyelids, making shadows look a bit better.

I coated my brown faux lashes with brown mascara

The Girl Scout and Hard Candy makeup bundle I purchased from Walmart in 2024 had a perfect extremely light brown colored shadow, so I brushed that onto my lids first. I liked the palette because it had some green shadows and some brown shadows. It also smelled like chocolate mint (one of my favorite chocolate flavor combos!).

If you are wondering how to wear green eyeshadow, pairing it with browns, especially if you have dark brown eyes like me, mixing it with neutrals will provide great results. If you have lighter eyes, you can still use brown eyeshadows. Brown shadows, like many neutrals, look great on all eye colors.

Any hair color or eye color can be paired with green eyeshadow

After I swept on the lightest brown color all over my lids, I added a dark brown shadow from the palette in my crease and on my bottom lash line. Next, I added a dark green shadow over the brown. Layering and blending brown and green eyeshadows help tone down very bold colors.

I then added my regular KVD dark brown liquid liner to my eyes and added some Ardell light brown faux lashes. I coated the faux lashes and my bottom lashes with the Hard Candy Cookie Batter volumizing brown mascara that came with my makeup bundle. Brown liner and brown mascara tone down green eyeshadow, and also works really well on your “no makeup” days to give your eyes just a little boost if you feel you need it.

My Weapon of Choice: How I keep glitter and dark shadows off my cheeks…see the quick video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:

I added some of my HALEYS daily setting powder on the top of my cheeks with a powder puff to catch any of the green glitter shadow or any other dark shadows. The Hard Candy eyeshadows did not have much fall out, so the powder didn’t need to catch much, but the glitter was a bit messy, as many glitter shadows are. I patted on some green glitter directly onto my eyelid and layered it with a bit of lighter colored green eyeshadows. After applying the shadows, I swept away the powder with a big fluffy brush, which also takes away any fallen glitter.

An easy daily makeup look

I added a neutral brown-pink blush and a neutral brown-pink lipstick to complete the look. If you are wanting to wear green eyeshadow but aren’t sure if it’s for you, try picking up some Hard Candy shadows, as they are well-priced and have great quality. Their Girl Scout Cookie collab line is selling fast, and if it’s sold out by the time you read this, Hard Candy has a palette called Green With Envy at Walmart that comes with lots of greens and brown shadows for you to play with and find a look that is right for you.
