Emily in Paris Scarf and Braided Low Ponytail Hair Tutorial

I loved watching through the Emily in Paris series to see all the fashion and hairstyles. The clothes the stylists dress Emily in are simply fab and the hairstyle team is super talented too. I saw her low ponytail braided hairstyle with a long scarf on an episode in Season 4 (when Emily was in Rome) and knew I could recreate something similar. Read on to learn how to create an Emily in Paris scarf and braided low ponytail hairstyle.

The Emily in Paris hairstyle inspiration

The series on Netflix was created by Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City, so if you liked that series, you’d love Emily in Paris. The characters are a bit younger than Carrie and her crew in SATC, but the love stories, the drama, the fashion and hair trends are all very prominent, similar to SATC. The actors are really great, making it an overall good show. The scenery is great too, making me want to visit Paris at some point.

Bruno Gouery (Luc) adds the dose of humor that I truly love. He’s a French actor, as many of the actors are in this series. The show does a great job of incorporating the French language and the English language, making it easy to follow and somewhat realistic. He pairs with Samuel Arnold (Julien, his co-worker) in a fun and quirky way.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie) is an actress I was happy to get to see too. I had never seen any of her work before and she is amazing! She depicts Emily’s French boss in a fashionable and power-house way. They have her play a bit towards the Miranda Priestly character in the Devil Wears Prada, but in a much more loving and caring way.

I loved Emily’s friends, but I think I resonated with her work crew because they would be a crew I’d love to have working for me. They all worked well together and seemed to have fun, which is what I think all workplaces should be.

I loved so much of the fashion and hairstyles and this low ponytail braided hairstyle on Emily (Lilly Collins) was very Parisian, stylish and EASY to recreate. I did it in my own way and I loved wearing it.

I loved using my new curling wand, a skinny one by Wavytalk, for this, though you don’t have to use a curling wand for this super easy and quick hairstyle. See my full tutorial of using the Wavytalk wand to get various curls in this article.

How-to:

I first tied the scarf onto the ponytail holder. I slipped it through the holder and then knotted it one time.

My DIY scarf ponytail holder

I brushed my clean hair.

I used my teasing brush to lightly tease the crown (the back) of my hair to give it a little volume.

I parted my hair in the center, separated small pieces of hair (my long “bangs”) and held them with a clip to prevent me from pulling them back into the ponytail.

I used the teasing brush to pull the rest of my hair back into a low ponytail and looped the scarf and ponytail holder around my ponytail to secure it. I pulled the knotted side to the top and let it drape down my ponytail.

I pulled the scarf ends to the front of my body (to get it out the way for braiding) and braided my ponytail. My hair is long, so I had to pull it to the side to braid it all the way to the end, then I used a clear elastic and a pom-pom ponytail holder to secure the braid.

I heated my Wavytalk curling wand and then wrapped my bangs around it in small sections to give them a wave. You could leave your hair straight too.

Then the style is done! I wore it all day. It’s a simple style with a lot of flair! You could use a skinny scarf, but the large scarf definitely adds more drama to this style.
