How To Make Sprinkle Sunglasses

Carolyn J. Braden3 Minute Read

Around the time of my birthday, I kept seeing sunglasses covered in sprinkles popping up all over Etsy. I have a passion for sunglasses, and after doing a little research, I knew I could make some of my own. There are many versions of sprinkle sunglasses on the market.

Sprinkle sunglasses are a fun accessory!

You can get them with Happy Birthday phrases, get them personalized with your name and more. Sprinkle sunglasses could be a cute gift idea for a special kid in your life, for your bridal party or for anyone really! With the many variations I’ve seen online, I came up with some ideas for you. Read on to learn how to make sprinkle sunglasses.

Red heart shaped sunglasses have a great surface for sprinkles

Before I moved to Southwest Florida, I used sunglasses for more of a fashion accessory, but after moving to SWFL, I realized how important they were. Just walking outside on a sunny day without sunglasses actually hurt my eyes. I definitely now know sunglasses are more than just a stylish accessory; they play a vital role in protecting our eyes from harmful UV rays.

Sprinkle sunglasses bring a little joy to your fashionable life

With their wide variety of shapes, sizes, and designs, sunglasses cater to every individual's unique style and preference. Whether you're lounging on the beach, driving under the scorching sun, or enjoying outdoor activities, sunglasses are a must-have to shield your eyes from glare and prevent potential eye damage.

Additionally, sunglasses contribute to reducing eye strain and eye fatigue, making them a practical choice for everyday use. So, next time you step out into the bright sunshine, don't forget to grab a pair of sunglasses (even some sprinkle sunglasses!) to not only enhance your look but also safeguard your precious eyes. UV sunglasses are best for eye protection, but something is better than nothing.

You can use a wax pencil to easily pick up beads

The first version of sprinkle sunglasses I created was inspired by my birthday. I already had a couple of pairs of plain red heart shaped sunglasses I got on Amazon, so all I needed to get was the sprinkles. I did a search on Amazon and found an abundance of non-edible sprinkles.

You can use crystals along with sprinkles for your sunglasses decor

You could use edible sprinkles, but if they got wet, the sprinkles would probably melt if they weren’t sealed with something like resin. To make them last longer, I’d get some faux sprinkles.

I’ve made several pairs of sprinkle sunglasses

I also purchased a mix of alphabet letter beads. I selected some that were heart shaped, but there are lots of shapes, colors and sizes on the market. I already had a wax pencil and Liquid Fusion glue on hand, so I thought up a design and set to work.

Sprinkle and sparkle sunglasses

I chose to add a funny birthday phrase from the television show, The Office, that said “It is your birthday”. I set that phrase out in the alphabet beads onto the outer rim of the glasses before gluing them down. This way I understood how the placement would look before gluing.

Next, I placed the glasses onto an old towel to help catch loose beads as well as support the glasses and make them lay flat. I then squeezed out a bit of Liquid Fusion glue onto the frame and glued the letter beads into the planned phrase. I was able to use my fingers to easily place them, but a wax pencil can help you pick up the beads if they are on the small side.

Next, I added a bit more glue to the outer frame and started the process of sprinkling the faux sprinkles onto the glue. I worked in small sections to make sure the glue stayed tacky enough to make the sprinkles stick.

I added my name to my second pair of sprinkle sunglasses

I glued sprinkles to the entire frame and then picked up the glasses and gently shook them to remove any loose sprinkles. I could see a couple of gaps after doing this, so I added a little more glue and sprinkles until they covered the entire outer edges of the frames. I used a toothpick to remove any excess glue.

I wore them for my birthday and loved them. I decided they were super cute and wanted to make more for other occasions. I ordered another set of heart shaped sunglasses from Temu (they were cheaper and the exact same frames, just in a different color than my first pair) and decided to add jelly crystals to them along with some sprinkles. I followed the same procedure, laying out letter beads (I chose to add my name onto the second pair) first before gluing.

After I glued my name, I added a variety of crystals along the edges, applying some glue, then using a wax pencil to pick up the crystals and place them onto the glue. After adding the letter beads and the crystals, I added some faux sprinkles to the corners, on top of the crystals. This pair was sparkly and very pretty too. I plan to make more designs and give them as gifts. I feel that everyone could use a little more joy in their life and these cute sprinkle sunglasses can add that and brighten anyone’s day no matter who they are.
