A few weeks ago we had "Lizardgate" at our house and I drew a comic to fit the scenario. This week we have "Mousegate" going on. Yesterday, a very brave mouse decided to enter our house.
Tommy heard it munching on something under the dishwasher yesterday afternoon. I opened the dishwasher and it scared him out. Ross was nearby, saw it, and jumped on him. He didn't know what to do, and neither did we, so he sat up and the mouse scurried away.
Then, as I was about to draw a comic for that scenario today, I saw it peep out from behind our fireplace grate. I jumped up from the couch, spilling my coffee everywhere. Ross happened to see him too and jumped on it as it ran into the dining room.
Once again, Ross didn't know what to do. Tommy and I both grabbed boxes, hoping we could trap it and get it outside. Ross let it go and the mouse ran quicker than we could, jumping into our return air vent.
We placed a humane mousetrap with a bit of cat food in the vent, hoping it will go in there at some point. In the meantime, we just wait. And Ross is stalking all the areas of the house where he saw the mouse.
Mousegate is not over...yet.
Why the sudden influx in creatures at our house in the summer? Our neighbors started having their yard sprayed for mosquitoes this year for the first time in ten years. Every time someone sprays, it seems to drive a bunch of critters (things we usually don't have) over to our yard.
It has created an interesting life for us, indeed.
