I’ve been using Health & Beauty Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay for years and love it! I have combination skin that is very picky. It sometimes is oily, sometimes dry, sometimes sensitive, sometimes breaks out, and sometimes is completely clear. While I currently get monthly mild facial peels, take really good care of my skin (wash it twice a day, moisturize and NEVER sleep with my makeup on), and eat well (very little to no dairy products, all organic and non-GMO) to help my skin stay “normal”, sometimes I need a little help about mid-month.
In between my facial appointments, I use the healing clay mixed with apple cider vinegar as a facial mask. Being 100% natural calcium bentonite (green) clay, it soaks up oil and breaks down any breakouts I have going on.
It’s also cruelty free, vegan (no animal ingredients) and non-irritating to my crazy skin which makes me love it even more!
How-to:
I follow the directions on the package, mixing equal parts clay and (organic) apple cider vinegar in a non-metal bowl with a non-metal utensil. Then I smooth it all over my face with a facial brush.
I leave it on for 5-10 minutes. The directions say you will feel pulling and tightening AND YOU DO! I look like a little greenish alien with too much plastic surgery when it is at it’s tightest! LOL!
I use a soft damp wash cloth to gently remove it from my face, then rinse off any residual clay with cool water.
Lastly, I moisturize with my regular moisturizer.
As the directions say on the package, I get a slight redness of my skin after removing the mask, but it disappears quickly (30 minutes or less).
I have tried mixed it with water and sometimes with apple cider vinegar. I prefer to use vinegar because it makes my skin softer.
I use it about once a month in the winter and about two times a month in the summer
FYI: I would not recommend this for dry or sensitive skin. I can say that because my husband experimented with it (his skin is sensitive and dry) and did not like it AT ALL. It dried his skin out way too much. It also irritated his skin a bit. I suggest doing a test on a small area of your skin BEFORE using it on your face if you are not sure how your skin will react.
Other ways I use the clay:
When I am feeling under the weather, I’ll sprinkle a little clay in a warm bath and soak in it. Through research, I’ve learned that the clay can help pull toxins out of your body and help you feel better faster. While I know some may be skeptical about it, I’ve found that it usually helps me.
I mix a little with some water and put it on a “tough to get rid of” pimple and sleep with it on over night. It’s not a miracle cure, but it does help shorten the pimple life span. It’s also better than picking or popping them!
According to the package, you can use the clay for foot soaks, bodywraps, chilled clay packs (for sore muscles) and insect bites.
