How to Use a Topsy Tail Hair Looping Tool for Easy Hairstyles

Twisted low ponytails were very popular in the 1980’s. As a pre-teen, I used to flip my ponytail through my hair strenuously to get the look because I didn’t have any tools at the time to help me do it. Then came the Topsy Tail hair looping tool.

I’ve owned a Topsy Tail for several years and thought it was time to show you how easy it is to use for many hairstyles. Read on to learn how to use a Topsy Tail hair looping tool for easy hairstyles.

I used the large looping tool for a twisted low ponytail style

I originally bought the hair looping tool to help me string some cotton candy colored hair extensions through my hair for braiding. I saw someone using the Topsy Tail to do this and it made adding the colorful hair much easier for the person doing the tutorial I watched. After using it for that experiment, I wondered what else I could do with it.

Creating easy and quick hairstyles is something I love to do. I love styles that looked like you put a bunch of effort into, but are much simpler than they look. That’s what the Topsy Tail gives you. It’s a simple plastic and bendable tool that helps you create a style that looks complex and beautiful, but is very easy.

If you want a name brand Topsy Tail, you can find it by Conair on Amazon here. The set comes with a small and a large looping tool, instructions and ponytail holders. There are plenty of off brand versions on the market that cost a bit less that work just the same.

Twisted Low Ponytail

I first experimented with creating a twisted low ponytail hairstyle. It’s best to use tangle free hair with this tool. I brushed my hair with my Unbrush (I love this brush…get it on Amazon here) and then pulled my hair into a low ponytail with a seamless ponytail holder.

I positioned my large looping tool on my ponytail and faced the pointed end towards my head. I slid the loop down on my ponytail just slightly under my ponytail holder.

I bent the pointed end towards my head and slid it into my hair behind my ponytail holder.

I used the tool to gently pull my hair between my head and the ponytail holder and down. If you have to tug too hard, you may have your ponytail holder a bit too tight. Try loosening it if you struggle to. Pull your hair through OR brush your hair a little more.

I used my fingers to fluff up the twist to hide the ponytail holder and the style is done.

Twisted Half Up Hairstyle

For a twisted half up hairstyle, I brushed my hair and pulled the sides back to form a half up hairstyle and secured it with a seamless ponytail holder.

I followed the same steps as for the low ponytail style, but I used the small looping tool.

I positioned the loop on my ponytail, with the pointed end facing my head. I bent the pointy end towards my head and then down under the ponytail holder. I gently pulled my hair through and placed a puffy bow scrunchie over my ponytail holder to conceal it.
