How to Make a Pink Pumpkin Hair Bun: Easy Half-Up Hairstyle

Don't feel like dressing up for Halloween? I have a fun solution! 🎃💕 This easy pink pumpkin hair bun is a cute, creative way to celebrate the season without wearing a costume. Inspired by a Pinterest hairstyle, I made the look my own by creating a pink pumpkin (because I LOVE pink!) and turning it into a comfortable half-up hairstyle instead of a full bun.

The best part? This DIY pumpkin hairstyle is surprisingly easy to create and comfortable enough to wear all day. Whether you're heading to a Halloween party, running errands, or just want to add a little festive flair to your look, this playful hairstyle is a fun way to celebrate!

How to Make a Pink Pumpkin Hair Bun

Step 1: Refresh Your Pink Hair (Optional)

Since I already have pink hair, I wanted to make my color brighter before creating my pumpkin hairstyle. I mixed Overtone Raspberry Pink Leave-In Conditioner with Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner to create a sheer pink tone. I applied the mixture to my dry hair, let it sit for 20 minutes, and then shampooed and conditioned my hair as usual.

You can skip this step if you don't want to refresh your hair color! This gives my hair a nice weekly color refresh and a deep conditioning…dual purpose!

Step 2: Create a Half-Up Ponytail

Once my hair was dry, I used my Tangle Teezer brush to smooth the sides of my hair upward into a half-up hairstyle. I applied Not Your Mother's hair gel to slick back the sides, then secured the hair with a ponytail holder.

Step 3: Create the Pumpkin Bun

I lightly teased the ponytail with my brush to give it some volume. Next, I slid a small bun maker over the ponytail and wrapped my teased hair around it to cover the bun maker completely. I used hair pins and bobby pins to secure the hair in place.

Step 4: Make Your Pumpkin Pink!

For an extra pop of color, I sprayed KISS Tintation Temporary Hair Color Spray in Haunted Rose directly onto the bun. I only sprayed the bun, creating a vibrant hot-pink pumpkin while leaving the rest of my hair its original color.

Step 5: Add the Pumpkin Details

To create the pumpkin's signature ridges, I cut pink pipe cleaners in half, bent each piece, and wrapped them vertically around the bun. I secured them around the base with bobby pins wherever needed.

For the finishing touch, I coiled a green pipe cleaner around my finger to create a curly stem and tucked it into the center of the bun.

Step 6: Curl and Set Your Hair

I curled the rest of my hair using my Wavytalk thermal brush and finished the entire style with TRESemmé A-List Workable Hairspray.

And that's it! You have an adorable pink pumpkin hair bun that's festive, creative, and perfect for Halloween without needing a full costume.

My Final Thoughts

This easy half-up pumpkin hairstyle is proof that you don't need an elaborate costume to get into the Halloween spirit. You could DIY your costume with things you already have, then create this cute hairstyle. I love how the pink color makes this look a little different from the traditional orange pumpkin, and the half-up style lets me wear my hair down while still having fun with a festive detail.

It's a quick, comfortable hairstyle that lets me show off my creative side. If you love pink as much as I do, give this DIY pumpkin hair bun a try!
