The Classic Pearl

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was quoted as saying “pearls are always appropriate” and I agree. Not only are pearls classy, they are one of my birthstones and I’ve always loved them. I always hoped I’d find one in an oyster as a kid. I never did, so I bought a kit once (see it here on Amazon) that contained a real oyster with a pearl for my mother-in-law and it was a fun experience for my niece and myself to do with her.

Pearls have been called the “tears of the gods”, morning dew or the result of lighting hitting the sea. Learn more about pearls here from the American Gem Society.

How-To:

If your hair is not freshly washed OR is freshly washed, you can sprinkle dry shampoo at the roots and brush out to absorb oil AND add a bit of volume and grip.

viori dry shampoo for oily roots

I love Viori dry shampoo and their bars!

I parted my hair in the middle and added a bit of Braid Balm to my hands and then to my roots to tame flyaways.

I love Braid Balm for flyaways and more

I pulled my hair into a low ponytail that sort of was to the side of the nape of my neck and secured it with a ponytail holder. Using a brush or comb helps smooth lumps and bumps.

Making a low ponytail

I pulled a piece of hair out of the ponytail and wrapped it around my ponytail holder and secured it with a pearl bobby pin. This hides the ponytail holder.

I added a bit more Braid Balm and some hairspray to tame any more hairs, then I slid the pearl bobby pins onto one side of my head one at a time.

This is a cute and easy hairstyle that lasts all day

My hair was third day hair (I wash my hair every three days to prevent dry out and color loss, using dry shampoo in between washings), so it had a bit of a wave to it from previous days of curling it. If your ponytail needs some shaping, use a curling iron (I like my Beachwaver) or a Thermal Brush (I love mine by Wavytalk) to add a bit of curl or shaping.
