The Best Gifts for Dog Lovers

I love my dogs. I just do. I love them with all my heart and soul. And I know I’m not the only one that loves their dogs as much as I do. According to Rover.com, “24% of people take more pictures with their dog than with friends, family or their significant other”. Pet owners also spend a significant amount of time with their fur-babies over relatives and friends, are starting to plan trips that include their pets now more than ever and even cook special meals for them. That’s a lot of dog love!

When my husband gifted me an American Eskimo t-shirt for my birthday this year, I started to research all the shirts that had an Eskie on it and the results were astounding. And there aren’t just t-shirts available for American Eskimo lovers available either. If you currently enter the search term “Dog Gifts” on Amazon, there are over 100,000 results. That’s a lot of pet themed gifts!

Because that’s far too many for you to browse through, I decided to write this post with some of my favorite dog gift or other pet parent gifts (as I don’t want leave out all those other pet owners out there…I have cats too and love them!) you may want to consider the next time you are looking to buy someone a pet themed gift.

Read on to see how you can show even more love for your dog through these dog lover (or any pet lover) gift ideas.

1- Dog Themed T-Shirts

The American Eskimo t-shirt my husband gave me

As I said earlier, my husband gifted me an American Eskimo t-shirt and I adore it. It’s only a matter of time before I order another dog t-shirt. You can simply enter a breed name+ t-shirt into a Google or Amazon search and you’ll find plenty to choose from. I recently saw a company during my dog gift research called Noble Pawtrait that can customize a shirt with your own pet’s portrait on it. They make swim trunks and all kinds of custom pet art creations as well.

2- Dog Themed Jewelry

Years ago, my mother-in-law gifted me with a sterling silver “dog mom” necklace . I wear it often as it helps me proudly show off my love for my dogs. There are tons of dog themed jewelry items on the market OR you could make your own. I made a rainbow bridge beaded bracelet to commemorate the dogs I’ve lost over the years. I also used the same beading technique to make a bracelet with my dog’s names on them.

3- Dog Carriers

Taking a fun picture of someone’s pet and framing it makes a nice gift

One thing I wished I would have had when my dog Joey was in his “elder” years was a rolling dog carrier or dog stroller. He LOVED walking and when his arthritis took over his legs, he could no longer accompany us on walks. So, I invested in dog strollers and carriers for my current dogs and even though the are still young, they love riding in them.

We have a stroller that can either be pushed or be attached to our bikes and we have a sling pet carrier. We use each on occasion, because young dogs need to walk sometimes, but the stroller and carrier are great for when they get very hot and tired. They are also helpful for any pets with ailments like hip dysplasia, which is common in large dog breeds. I know of many cat owners and bird owners that also walk them in strollers as well.

4- Pet Toys

Dogs like to get gifts for the holidays too!

Our dogs LOVE toys. If you think your dog doesn’t like toys, then you haven’t found the right one yet. There are a ton of dog toys on the market, but we have found BarkBox toys to hold up the best. We don’t have a subscription to BarkBox (as our dogs don’t need the treats that are often included in the boxes), so we either get them via Amazon or Target.

I also like to make my own dog toys. My dogs LOVE my fleece rope bones. You can make them in a variety of colors and sizes. Check out my dog rope bone tutorial on my YouTube channel “Carolyn Braden” or below!

5- Personalized Gifts

Many dogs love to snuggle in blankets or in pet beds

Over the years on gifting a lot of gifts to pet lovers, some of the most well-received were the ones I had personalized. I gifted a mug and a pillow to my in-laws that had their dog on it and they loved it. You can get customized frameable prints, custom jewelry, custom keychains and more. Anything personalized makes the best gifts for dog lovers and any pet owner in your life.
