My finished Halloween ornament matches my candy corn tiara that I made too!

This idea came about when an artist friend and I were discussing a pumpkin ornament she made. She made hers out of sequins and pins, which definitely gave me an idea for a Christmas ornament idea. Since I already had some orange rhinestones on hand and the ornament, I decided to use her inspiration and create a rhinestone version of my own.

Making Jack o’ Lanterns with real pumpkins are an option as well. All the pumpkins I’ve gotten to carve while living in Southwest Florida have rotted before Halloween, so I now have decided to decorate using faux pumpkins.

I especially love my DIY jadeite pumpkins. See that full tutorial here. You can also see it in my 1-minute video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden.

I don’t love making Jack o’ Lanterns since they require lots of cutting. When I was in the 6th grade, carving a pumpkin (unattended by any adult of course, as that was what my home and many other homes were like in the 1980’s…just like you see on Stranger Things, lol!) with an upside-down knife sent me to the hospital for stitches.

I had no idea carving it with the knife upside down would be so dangerous, but I do now! If you want to carve a pumpkin, make sure you are using some safer tools or appropriate tools like these:

Things You Need:

See my 1-minute tutorial for this craft in the video above or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden.

How-To:

First, I drew out a Jack o’ Lantern face using my Sharpie marker. It’s basically three triangles (eyes and nose) and a crecent shape (mouth).

First I drew out the Jack o’ Lantern face

Next, I added some Liquid Fusion glue to the face design and used my wax pencil to add some white pearls around the eyes, then filled in the rest of the face with black jelly rhinestones. Add thin layers of glue to prevent oozing.

Then I worked in small sections to add thin layers of glue and orange jelly rhinestones all over the ornament, front and back.

I used mixed sizes of rhinestones for some variation, but you don’t have to do this.

I then used my Bowdabra to make a bow. See my bowdabra tutorial here on my YouTube channel. If you can make a perfect bow without a Bowdabra, go for it! I fold the ends of the ribbon in half, cut it on a diagonal to get the angled look, and seal it with a lighter to prevent fraying. You can seal many ribbon ends with a quick swoop of a lighter. Be careful to not let it linger as it will catch fire!

I created my bow for the ornament with a Bowdabra

I then added some hot glue to the top of the ornament and placed the bow on the glue and held it until it cooled.

Then I added some thin black satin ribbon for hanging and the ornament was complete!

I allowed 24 hours for the rhinestone glue to fully dry.
